OT: The $500 AUD Kitty |
Hi All,
For TGHO's birthday two years ago, we aquired a kitty. Beautiful grey &
white fluffball no bigger than the palm of my hand. She was the runt of
the litter, but now she's a sleek, smart little girl with tilted green-
grey eyes and a lovely sweet personality. She trills when she purrs.
We're in love. ;)
Bout a month ago, she started coughing. We figured hairballs. Also had
nasty gunk in her eyes, we figured dust (she likes to hang out under the
bed).
But no, the coughing got worse, so off to the vet. $500 AUD later, we
find out we have an asthmatic kitty with allergies and bronchitis. TGHO
was beside himself with worry!
She's home now, expensive little thing. Who knew cats could get
asthma??
Grace (who actually now has a total of three kitties aquired over two
years, but that's another story!)

Oh my, you poor thing. Does she have to take some kind of medication?
And yes, kitties can be very expensive. My elder feline picked up some kind
of a virus from the witchling's kitten not long after we adopted her and I
thought we were going to lose her. However, a visit to the vet, shot of an
antibiotic, water under her skin and $240 later, she was right as rain ;)

She may. Vet says as she gets older it will be more of an issue. Right now,
just anti-biotics for the bronchitis. She may have to take the same
sorts of meds I do for my asthma. The vet mentioned that when she's
older that she might have to be put on a nebulizer, like people. Then
she laughed. A lot. Cause we both had the mental image of strapping a
nebulizer to a cat's face! There's the liquid and pill form of that
medication, fortunately!

We'd have paid as much money as we could lay hands on, if need be, to
make her better.

Oh MY! I can't see that going over very well. Getting a cat to take a pill
can be quite a struggle as it is :)

Thank goodness for that!

Or hypertension? My cat got sick two months ago, and after a battery of
tests, she was diagnosed with HT. Who knew?

It's really very sweet. I'm not the cat person in this relationship, but
that trilly-purry "gosh, you're wonderful and I love you" noise just
melted me!

LOL, I so know what you mean. The witchling's kitten rarely meows and
mainly trills - constantly. You can pretty much carry on a conversation
with her.
How you doing? Puuureeet!
Want somethhing to eat? Puuuuurrreet!
How about those Yankess? Puuuuuurrreet!
The first time we heard her meow was when my daughter and I picked her up
from the vet after having her fixed. Apparently she heard our voices as the
vet tech carried her up stairs and she started meowing like crazy. We were
like "Wow! We've never heard her make that noise before". The other people
in the waiting room looked at us like we were crazy :)

When I picked Samrys up from the vet, she went nuts. She does meow,
mostly while hunting bugs - it's a very distinctive sound and quite
different from the normal "feed me, damnit" meow.

Mr. Tweek meows a lot. Oddly enough, his littermate, Carter, purrs
normally.

Samrys as described.
Patches is our very dim but very, very *pretty* (Soooo pretty!) cat.
She meows like a prostitute in a bar full of saliors. She answers
questions. "You hungry?" "Meeerawwwaror!" She has the rusty purr of a
lifelong smoker and bourbon drinker. (She also isn't graceful. But SO
PRETTY! ;))
Charlie (despite the name, also a girl kitty) has a harsh meow that
means one thing - "Ok, human, I require pettin's. NOW." An almost
silent purr, though, you can just feel it rather than hear it.
