Washington (George) led the way in political rhetoric. Now Washington
(DC) leads the way in crises and scandals

Watching ***** Cheney on US TV, I tried to remember a quote from George
Washington's farewell address in which he outlined all the dangers
which might encircle the new republic. So I looked up the speech and
found myself captivated by the beauty of the language and by
Washington's wisdom and knowledge of human nature. It is right to call
it one of the great works of civilisation.
Language is the man. Washington's virtue, his learning, courage and
experience shine in every phrase of that address, just as President
Bush's inadequacy is laid bare whenever he tries to explain his
policies. If a politician cannot write or speak fluently, you can bet
he or she is not thinking fluently, perhaps not even thinking at all.

Actually, some of the credit for that Farewell Address should go to A.
Hamilton.

Bush is going to be an ex-President, and one that I just don't see ever
being interviewed in any depth on issues of substance.
Most ex-Presidents, from Ford and Carter to Bush I and Clinton, have
been interviewed, giving their opinions of current politics or events,
talking at length and depth about a wide variety of issues. It's hard
to envision Bush ever putting forth anything but his usual vague,
marginally coherent blatherings - which no one will be interested in
once he's ridden off to permanently pretend to be a rancher.
He should have a very peaceful retirement. The press won't bother him,
and he won't be plagued by the doubts that normal, thinking people face
because in his mind, his every action is directed by the hand of God.

I suspect he will be a speaker in great demand from far right type
groups, moron churches and grateful big bidness types paying him
off for his 8 years of kowtowing to them with invitations to speak at
$50,000 a pop.
That's what another moron president, Reagan did for awhile.

Reagan was no moron.
He was no Nixon or Clinton, granted - perhaps the two most intelligent
Presidents of the 20th Century - but he was intelligent and while very
good at staying on (political) message, he was fully able to logically
(and coherently) discuss issues.
As for Bush, I don't think he's so much stupid as he simply holds an
utter disdain for knowledge, a disdain that he revels in, as if
analyzing and understanding issues is a sign of weakness while
following one's instincts is strength. Of course, such a stance can
really only hold when one's instincts are of super-human ability. Bush
is really a case of (even for politicians) narcissism run amok.
