It has rarely been this good; it has rarely been this bad. On the one
hand, as the election approaches, a confluence of good news for the
government, from public services to Europe and the Middle East,
underpinning what seems to be rising popularity in the polls. On the
other hand ... well, it's mayhem as usual, another madcap round of
dysfunctional New Labour politics that makes the most sympathetic
onlooker gape, laugh and weep all at once.
