As doubts about Iraq mount in Washington, even some Republicans are
starting to call for a timetable for withdrawal

June 15 - I was talking to Lebanese and Palestinian families here in
Washington. We had never discussed politics before, let alone the war
in Iraq. When the conversation turned that way, I expected a blast at
George Bush and American hubris. I was wrong.

Don't count on it.
It's just pre-poisoning. All of the house and a third of
the Senate is up next year. And 2008 doesn't look
good for the Republicans right now.
A lot of people might curse John Kerry for not "fighting"
enough in 2004, but look at his strategy:
He took the worse the Republicans could throw at
him. And then in 2005 -- when the groups are all
gone and their money is long spent -- he comes up
with all the "Proof" that they were full of *****.
If he did it during the campaign he would have
gotten just as much -- "Just as little" -- media
attention as he did now, but the other side would
have spent millions countering his every word, every
official record.
But, hey, it's done! Literally. They threw everything
they had at Kerry, and in 2008 they'll have nothing
left, nothing new.
That's why the Republicans need Hillary so bad.
That's why she's not going to run. As veep, maybe,
but not for the top slot. She'd be "Fresh meat"
requiring the exact same four years that Kerry is
taking.
Anyhow, the Republicans are currently pretending
that they're against the war to cover their asses.
This is no different than the way they started to
pretend that they were against Social Security
privatization in 2002. We know how that one
turned out.
So, the Republicans pay some lip service to
ending the war, but have not actually done
anything. Then if they lose control of the
house next year -- or the Whitehouse in 2008 --
they can immediately start blaming the Democrats
for the war.
Oh, please. You do know they attacked Clinton
mercilessly for Somalia, right? It was the
first Bush disaster, Bush senior, who sent the
troops in. And in April of 2001 they were
ATTACKING Bill Clinton for "focusing too
tightly" on Osama Bin Laden, only to blame
him for Bush's ***** up on 9/11.
The Democrats WILL BE blamed for this war.
I promise you.
And, yes, you can say you read it here first.
