The Bush administration's insistence that the economy is getting better

There have been conflicting reports about the timing of American troop
withdrawals from Iraq. Gen. George Casey, commander of U.S. forces
there, has announced that the United States intends to begin a "fairly
substantial" withdrawal of U.S. forces after the projected December
elections establish a constitutional government. Other sources have
indicated that this will involve 30,000 troops, or some 22 percent of
U.S. forces in Iraq. Some high-level statements from Baghdad have
indicated that the beginning of withdrawals may be delayed until next
summer. On either schedule, progress is dependent upon improvements in
the security situation and in the training of Iraqi forces.

That is why I don't read the business section of the paper any more.
All that good news and indicators of a strong economy brings on the
jitters.

Yes, we need to nail that down and publish a clear timetable. How do
you expect the terrorists and the Al Qaida network to make their plans?

I know that everyone remembers that the "unemployment figures"
do NOT count people who have stopped looking for jobs.
They also count all jobs as equal. So if the Ford plant
closes in your town and 2000 folks lose there jobs and
a month later they've all been hired at McDonalds, there
is no unemployment from the plant closing.
But the average salary has dropped.
Guess what the average salary of the bottom 50% of the
folks in the US has been doing?

You should be grateful that our gas at the pumps is so cheap now.
Notice how it has plummeted lately? In the price of a gallon of gas,
49% is the cost of crude. The rest is refining, distribution, oil
company profit, and taxes. So with all of our tankers filling up with
free crude in Iraq, we do not have to buy in Saudi Arabia, which is a
lot less work for them.
Do you understand any of this? If you want to discuss international
affairs you need some education.

But it isn't about Saudi Arabia. It's about showing the Europeans and
the Chinese who's the boss in the Middle East.
So what happened to the neocon fascist dream of cheap oil by stealing
Iraqi oil?

Oh, yeah, you're a fucking idiot.
Median Weeks Unemployed (SA)
7/2004 8
7/2005 9.0
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t09.htm
Let's compare that to the employment situation during Clinton's year
shall we?
Median Weeks Unemployed (SA)
7/1998 6.7
7/1999 5.8
7/2000 6.0
I guess unemployment must be "in its last throes"!
