It allows dual booting. For instance, if something corrupts the OS on
your computer you'll still have access to your files via this method.

GeekStuff4U has a diminutive Compact Flash card reader that can be
fitted directly onto the 40-pin IDE port of a PC. You might wonder what
is the point of this entire exercise - well, for starters, this
configuration allows you to run both Linux as well as another
lightweight OS (for example, Windows CE) on your computer. Imagine
carrying an entire operating system on a Compact Flash card. It is just
one of those things that keep you secure when you go to bed at night
knowing that you have the ability to dual-boot via a CF card when the
need arises, just like how driving a Ferrari through a traffic jam feels
like. Pick one up for 19 Euros. /quote

Thank you. That's what I try for. At this point in time, the only
reason I list this type of thing OT is because I've been doing it that
way for a long long time.
As you indicate, this is an atheist (with some welcome theists)
community and anything a member finds of interest is on topic. If
someone doesn't find the subject of interest they can skip the thread.
As I've said before, I don't think people get a chance to grin, chuckle
or laugh enough. They're also often pressed for time. So, my hope is
that these listed OT posts can brighten one's day a bit.

I think the OT indication is proper etiquette.
For a long period of time I thought so as well. Then I realized
whatever interests an atheist is automatically on topic. Putting 'OT'
on non theist threads is another instance of giving superstition too
much validity, imo.

Interesting. I see your point. I think I will continue
to use OT though. I think it helps in sort through
what to read first.
(One time someone flamed me
for being OT even though I had put OT in the subject
line. Someone else came to my defense and pointed
that out to the *****^H^H^H flamer. Oh well, no biggy.)
(But then I forget to put the OT sometimes such as
