OT: VIRUS WARNING, A.A. REGULAR FORGED! |
Beware *any attachment sent to you even if it *appears to come from one of
our regulars! I just received one that *appeared to be from Yang. It was
*not. Someone forged an address of his.
The alt-atheism.org webmaster address has received three virus infected
emails in just the last hour and a half. While it's pointless for anybody
to send Winduhs viruses to my system, those of you still trapped by the
Gates of Hell should be on the look out.
It's the usual, brain dead stuff of "Mail delivery failure" and "I found
this document." The ones I've seen so far are "scr" files (I believe those
are Winduhs screen saver executables?). One was "faked" to look like a zip
file when it wasn't actually.
At least one was attached to a weird "click on this link to view the
message" nonsense even though the payload was in the email. What that's
about, I don't know. I haven't bothered with Windoze since NT 4. I'm not
up to date on Microsquish virus vectoring innovations...

I've seen a few more virus attempts lately, some disguised as returned
mail. Prolly actually trojans. Right now SpamCop seems overloaded, and
the internet seems slow (01/21/05 17:32 est) - maybe there IS a wave
of some sort.
I check in with grc.com once in a while, they usually have a good
analysis of internet plagues...... do you know any other places to
check?

Actually, no. These virus waves never have anything to do with me so I
don't bother. Often don't notice them unless somebody mentions them on the

Popfile (even running under Winblows) seems to catch all of them. And
Agent isn't stupid enough to use Word as an editor.

Nope. Someday I wish to switch to Linux. My Unix knowledge will help.
It's spending too much time switching while I'm currently in the
middle of physically moving, haven't found a house yet, while I have
my Windows net working top notch now.
No disdain for anyone who shuns windows. You *are*, in fact getting
your computing done, aren't you?
I've been meaning to get around to Linux, but the vicissitudes of
landlording going afoul, the resultant rebuilding and selling of a two
family house last summer whilst bringing tons of junk, some of which
abetted illegal activity, to the junkyard, cessation of rent income
plus paying for lawyering at $200/hr has put a crimp on my
flexibility. My desire for drink, women and pocket billiards even went
by the wayside for two solid months, but I'm OK now but still have to
find a house but fortunately can afford one now and ...Whoops this was

the better Linux will be once you get to it.

Thanks, Mark for hanging in there with me!
Hanging? I get a little freaked about heights you...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
If you mean meandering, I admit I sometimes have a somewhat imprecise
control over what I think up, ala a Vonnegut line "like a puppet
controlled by stale rubber bands instead of steel wires" or something
like that, but I write it anyway - there's lots of odd stuff rattling
around in my head but logic does prevail and I've never hurt myself or
anyone else, even drunk and provoked. Thinking outside the norm is my
specialty and I've been stuck with it from birth.
People have broken my balls often enough they've grown back so strong
they can't be broken anymore, figuratively speaking. It's because I
really don't care, now, because I know myself, and that *really pisses
them off. <eg> All the sessions with shrinks taught me is that I'm not
nuts. It's that simple. It's a shame to have to pay that much to find
out. But, quality education *is expensive.
Meanwhile I just want to enjoy my drift through life.
Any help I get is nice. I also like it when I can help others.
