scenes, says Nick Mathiason

The Observer
A century ago, sufferers from asthma and tuberculosis dragged
themselves to Davos, 1,600 metres above sea level, wrapped themselves
in camel-hair rugs, breathed in glacial mountain air and prayed for
some respite from malady.
This week, the search for a cure to some of the world's most grievous
ills is occupying centre stage at the Swiss Alpine resort for the
annual coming together of the planet's most powerful business and
political leaders.
