White House is ambushed by criticism from America's military community

George Bush probably owes his presidency to the absentee military
voters who nudged his tally in Florida decisively past Al Gore's. But
now, with Iraq in chaos and the reasons for going to war there mired
in controversy, an increasingly disgruntled military poses perhaps the
gravest immediate threat to his political future, just one year before
the presidential elections.

Wonder if he thinks he'll be able to count on the military vote this time
around...

Why wouldn't he? I've yet to see any polls that shows the
deserter & chief loosing ground amongst veterans.

Not talking about veterans. I'm talking about the current military and
their families. Which covers a lot of folks.
Remember, one of his big bases were *current military. Part of the Florida
fiasco involved going out of their way to get the military vote in.
Veterans, I don't know. I can't help but note, however, that the period
just after Vietnam saw the US swing to the left. Once those guys get home
(those that get to come home), it could get interesting.
And will they vote for him in the upcoming election? Now that he's
stranded them in a quagmire, won't let them come home, cut their benefits
every chance he got...

Anyone here think that the current administration is going to go to any
effort to make sure that troops stationed over in Iraq get to vote next
year?

I'm sure he - or whoever does his thinking - definitely does. After
all, didn't "he" give the military a glorious victory?
