The Guardian
The debate on Darfur in the UN security council last night is a
salutary reminder that the only hope for peoples abandoned by their
own governments is an effective international community.
It was a Labour government that hosted the conference in postwar
London that gave birth to the UN. Now this Labour government has the
opportunity to modernise it by taking up the challenge of Kofi Annan's
blueprint for a UN for this century.

natural disasters and interference with those who can respond quickly,
hamstringing the US as much as possible, acting to legitimize vicious
dictators worldwide, and chastizing Israel without regard to justice.
Oh, and don't forget standing by while people under their
"protection" are being slaughtered.

tool for US foreign policy, the US might just consider funding it just
enough to carry out US policy, like the World Bank is now going to do. As it
is even now, it still helps to carry out the policy of important factions of
the USA, Inc, by permitting genocide and murder of black people in Africa,
including biological genocide by failing to lift much of a finger to help
fight AIDS.
