In local Pennsylvania news:
County to keep the Commandments
-------------------------------
Northampton judges unanimously agree plaque displayed in
courthouse promotes history instead of religion.

A Ten Commandments plaque will remain in a Northampton County
courtroom because it promotes history, not religion, county
judges said Tuesday.
President Judge Robert Freedberg issued a written statement
saying the judges unanimously agree the Commandments should
stay, based on two U.S. Supreme Court opinions from two weeks
ago.
The plaque has hung behind the witness stand in Courtroom No. 1
since 1955, when it was presented to the county by the
Bethlehem- and Easton-area Jewish communities in honor of the
300th anniversary of Jews coming to America.
Freedberg's statement says there is no evidence the plaque was
presented to promote religion.
