Seems that Mississippi state funds are going to an
organization that openly discriminates against
Catholics:
| A local Christian adoption agency that receives funds
| from the sale of Mississippi's Choose Life specialty
| car tags will not consider Catholics as adoptive parents.
Ironically, this is *Exactly* the sort of thing the ACLU is
always fighting against, and why the Republican right
has always hated the ACLU.
In other words, with a great deal of help from Catholics,
states may now fund anti-Catholic discrimination!
Congratulations, Catholics. I always said that you're digging
your own graves, and here you go -- once again -- offering
proof!
This is almost as much fun as the time you helped make
Trent Lott, overt anti-Catholic bigot, leader of the United
States Senate!
You must be *So* *Proud* of yourselves!
Now why don't you all hurry up and finish slitting your
own throats, just like the Protestant fundies have been
asking you to do. You know, start excommunicating
Catholic politicians who aren't agents of a foreign Pope.
That way it can actually be un-American to place any
Catholic in a position of authority!
"We can't even consider a Catholic, as he would have
no choice but to obey the Pope's orders on pain of
excommunication."
You know you're going to do it. After all, it's only
the people you don't like -- the liberals, the homos,
the atheists & the feminists -- who tell you that they
can see the death of your church coming.
The people you do like -- fundamentalist protestants
who openly discriminate against you -- tell you that
it's all a bunch of lies.
Bye!

When is a pope ever not foreign?

Not that I don't highly value your question (oh no, perish the
thought!) but your emphasis is entirely on the wrong part.
It's not that the Pope will be foreign, it's that leaders (be
it political or economic leaders) will be required to
act in accordance of the Pope's wishes, on pain of
excommunication.
Perhaps you weren't aware, but this would represent a
change. It would result in a situation *Exactly* like that
described by anti-Catholic bigots & Republicans when
they were smearing JFK during his run for the Presidency.
It was no more than smears back then -- 1960's version
of Bush's "swiftboat veterans" -- but very soon it will
be a reality.
It will no longer be the smears of anti-Catholic bigots,
it will be the truth.
That means even people who are not anti-Catholic
bigots will be saying it. Everyone -- everyone outside
the Catholic church that is -- will have to honestly
weigh the possibility of voting for a representative of
the Pope, rather than a politician who will represent
them.
Considering how there's only 65 million Catholics
out of a nation of almost 300 million, the future
doesn't exactly look bright.
Well, except for Protestant fundies.
