opposed to being
formed from smaller parts.
2. What expertise does Hoyle have in biologt?

It was suggested yesterday on public radio by John Dominic Crossan that
were Ann what'sherface (the nun whose writings were the basis for the
movie) were alive today, Gibson would probably be facing plagiarism
charges.
The show may turn up on the archives soon. In the meanwhile, here is
something Crossan has written:

From everything I'm hearing, "The Passion" is playing to mostly empty houses. The
incredible sales are being generated by churches who buy up tickets and then hand
them out.

This is very true, at least in the UK. But don't expect the original
troll/spam merchant to ever be back to respond to that. Afterall, since when
have christians ever let that small thing called "fact" get in the way. It's
a shame the anti-gun lobby can't muster the same kind of cash in the US to
send members of the NRA along to see Bowling for Columbine.

georgann (forgiven since 33 AD) wrote:

A local church has been buying blocks of tickets from the opening day
and given them away. I've been offered them nearly daily on my
morning ride.
Then there's this:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2004-02-24-passion_x.htm
"In this case, the film's backers are turning to the country's 120
million churchgoers. The moviemakers are providing churches with free
marketing materials to help fill theater seats"
http://www.sbcbaptistpress.org/bpnews.asp?ID=17681
"Gillette said his church, like hundreds across the nation, had a plan
to use the film as an outreach to non-believers before they saw it.
The church has sold 3,600 tickets at $10 each, with some members
buying blocks of 100 at a time to distribute to friends and family
members."
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/artsentertainment/2001853447_passion08m.html
"Across the nation, "large groups are buying up entire theater
auditoriums in advance," said Rick King, a national spokesman for the
AMC Theatres chain. 'We really have not seen anything like the pattern
for The Passion.' "
http://makeashorterlink.com/?V5A821508
"Churches in Atlanta and other parts of the country are reserving
entire theaters. The First Baptist Church of Woodstock, for instance,
has bought out five days of showings on four screens at the Cherokee
16 in Town Lake shopping center."
http://www.pdcag.org/events1.htm
"Several weeks ago I saw a private screening of The Passion of the
Christ movie. At the end of the movie we sat in silence for a couple
of minutes. Most of us were weeping quietly. I came away hoping that
all the churches of the Potomac District would take advantage of this
window of opportunity for evangelism. What a delight it has been to
hear from so many pastors whose churches are buying out the entire
theatre—some for multiple showings. In most places the church is
asking its adherents to purchase a ticket and the church will give a
complimentary ticket for them to bring a friend to hear the Gospel
presented in the movie."
That's just a sample.

Yes. I'm sure he'd be ever so proud of being a cash cow for Mel...

Think I can sue Mel because my kid is now terrified of Jesus after
seeing pictures from The Passion in a magazine? Hmmm..............

I'm sure they'd claim terrifying small children is protected religious
expression.

ACK!

To be fair, it *has been part of their religion for centuries...

True, true - I just feel bad for the witchling, like I'M a bad parent for
showing her pictures of Jesus.

Out of curiousity, YOU were raised in the church. What did you think the
first time you saw Jesus up on the cross? Did it freak you out too?

Jesus always freaked me out. <g>
Seriously, he was one *scary figure...

Is she really?! That's hilarious! I mean, I hope she's not having
nightmares, but it will sure be hard for the kids at school to turn
her into a theist! She'll never go with them to youth group!

<chuckle> Well, I'm not finding it too funny yet, primarily because I feel bad
that she got so upset.
I mean, I hope she's not having

Hmm.... I'd like to see them try ;)

She'll never go with them to youth group!

Neither would she be allowed to do so - I don't think they even have those
things at her grammar school anyway.

The "Dawn of the Dead" followed right after and was equally well attended.
I guess audiences just like to see dead people reanimated.
That means a new release of Frankenstein is on the horizon.

I am happy with the re-release of Life of Brian.
