symbolize? There is another passage in the Bible that can shed some
light on the question. The Apostle Paul says that the devil will
attack us face to face and from our back, from our right and from our
left. He does not say "from above" or "from below". The reign of Satan
is "horizontal". It has no power to harm those who look for shelter in
the bottom of the caves or on the top of the mountains. It has no
power against the humility of the shepherds nor against the inspired
wisdom of the kings. So, my friend, no matter what is your place in
society, Christmas invites you to be a shepherd and a king: to be
humble and to love wisdom. The Lord promised that humble hearts would
be always under His protection and that wisdom would never be overcome
by wickedness.

The absence of middle class witnesses on the Nativity scene must
obviously have some other meaning. It is a symbol, but what does it
symbolize? There is another passage in the Bible that can shed some
light on the question. The Apostle Paul says that the devil will
attack us face to face and from our back, from our right and from our
left. He does not say "from above" or "from below". The reign of Satan
is "horizontal". It has no power to harm those who look for shelter in
the bottom of the caves or on the top of the mountains. It has no
power against the humility of the shepherds nor against the inspired
wisdom of the kings. So, my friend, no matter what is your place in
society, Christmas invites you to be a shepherd and a king: to be
humble and to love wisdom. The Lord promised that humble hearts would
be always under His protection and that wisdom would never be overcome
by wickedness.
