Peace Rallies March 17th |
The 4th anniversary of Bush's ***** war and occupation of Iraq will be
on March 17th (St. Patty's Day). I would like to encourage all atheists,
agnostics, humanists, free-thinkers and so-called "secular progressives"
out there to look up a rally in a city near you. See the United for
Peace link below that has listings for over 150 cities so far.
http://www.unitedforpeace.org
Secularists ought to oppose the war and go to the peace rallies for the
following reasons:
1. This conflict in Iraq is fueled by sectarian religious rivalries, not
just between shia, sunni and wahaab, but between fundamental
christianists and fundamental islamists. They shouldn't be using our tax
dollars and military to fight their holy wars.
2. While atheists don't have to agree on politics or ethics or anything
else, the fact is that most atheists, especially in the US, tend to be
progressive and humanistic in their worldviews. Humans can solve
problems like the one in Iraq without resorting to unnecessary, expensive
warfare.
3. Most people, including those who supported it initially, now oppose
the Iraq War by about a 2:1 margin. Therefore, even if you don't
particularly care about the issue, an anti-war/pro-peace rally would be a
good place to talk to other open-minded people about religion. (It also
is a good place to pick up chicks and get 'em drunk on St. Patty's Day.)
4. The enormous amounts of money being spent on this war could be better
used on just about anything and would likely be more effective at keeping
us safer. Imagine if $500 billion had been spent to make our planes and
ports and homeland safer. We could fucking install guided missile
systems in every major skyscraper and likely place that anybody would
want to crash a plane.
5. Far more americans die of cardio-vascular diseases, cancer, diabetes
and even car accidents than have ever been killed by terrorism.
Installing ignition interlocks in cars would probably save more lives in
1 year than all the peoople who died in the World Trade Center. We need
a scientific (and therefore secular) war on disease and death, rather
than a ***** war on terrorism.
6. Staying in Iraq doesn't make us any safer. It gives muslim fanatics
more targets and helps them draw new recruits. I'm all for fighting the
pernicious theocratic stupidity known as Islam, but we need to fight it
as an idea and drain the swamp of hatred. Instead our present crusade in
Iraq is creating enemies far faster than we can kill them.
7. This is a good opportunity, especially if you want to mess with
christer hippie types, that their support of religion actually enables
and emboldens religious terrorists like Bush and Co, who then exploit
religion as a fuel to ignite the fanaticism of other bible beaters. They
see this as a sort of "end of the world, defend the holy land" type of
deal.
8. Repugs, who tend to be theocrats, will continue to lose on this issue
in 2008, just as they lost on it in 2006, because things will only
continue to get more and more fucked up. If you want to lessen the
influence of the religious reich in american politics, then you need to
support grass roots activism, like the kind you are going to find at
these peace rallies.
9. The longer we stay diverted in Iraq, fucking with them over there and
letting bin Laden and his loyalists rebuild, the more likely we are to
continue to see them perform terrorist acts in the United States. We
have had other attacks on US soil, from the DC Sniper to anthrax, plus
plenty of attempts. We will continue to see these, but because of the
resource drain created by the present pork-barrel war, we won't have the
money to adequately defend ourselves at home.
10. Rallies are part of the answer because you can get your ideas out
there for the cost of a $1 sign. If you're lucky, you'll get broadcast
on national TV, at least on the one or two networks that aren't wholly
owned by the corporate-christian hegemony. Plus, it's something to tell
the kids. Heck, bring your kids and show them that peace protests are
patriotic.

Slug's
As I said, you fucking moron, there is nothing to surrender. We already
kicked fucking ***** and that was over in about one month. We can go back
in whenever the ***** we want. But we don't need to fucking be there now.
Let the stupid muslim bastards slaughter each other until they're tired
of it. It wasn't worth $500 billion and 3000 american lives (plus 30-40
thousand casualties). This isn't a fucking sporting match, mate. There
is nothing to "win" that we haven't already won. We can't stay there
forever. BTW, it's not surrender to leave a place where you've kicked
*****. We have to leave eventually, because the only alternative is to
annex the motherfucking country as the 51st fucking state of the union.
So shut the ***** up about your "surrender" *****. Why the ***** aren't
you over there if you supposedly believe in this moronic war so much?
Surrender is what you do with your little "boy *****" to men in bath
houses who pay you $5. Iraq wasn't a threat to us under Saddam and it
sure as hell isn't now that its military has been annihilated.
Bug Out. Must be a smooth spot in your cerebrum
I've displayed a lot more brain power than you. Your tactics are idiotic
and they are the reason we have wasted so much money and manpower so far.
You don't win by continuing to stay and be attacked. You win by
accomplishing your objectives and getting the ***** out. You lose by
continuing to hemorrhage cash and soldiers in a pointless guerilla war
that is not in your national interest, which is exactly the quagmire that
the US finds itself. Everyone said we needed an exit strategy and 4
years later we still have nothing (other than stay there until we run out
of money).
(let your fellow
surrender slugs try figuring that one out, heh, heh, heh).
There aren't even any decent targets still left in Iraq and there haven't
been any for years. Now get George Bush's ***** out of your mouth and
grow a brain, you little neocon puke. You greedy corporate whores will
be forced to pay back every penny you tried to steal from public coffers
with this illegal war in Iraq.

Real patriots would be at this rally, defending this country from

like you have always sold out their fellow countrymen and ***** on The
Constitution. We refuse to fight your holy wars. No Jihads 4 Any

If theist lemmings choose to kill themselves then I'm not going to demand
that the US spend $500 billion more to try to stop them. It might be
unfortunate, but it's their problem. We didn't create their ancient
sectarian feuds. I'm glad Saddam is gone, but they've already had
several elections to try to pick leaders to put in his place and keep the
peace. We need to take the Iraqis at their word and leave like they have
asked us to on a number of occasions.
If that's practicing what he preaches, I want no part of it.
We've already loved the Iraqis to the toon of $500 billion and massive
casualties on our part. We need to start loving them a lot less
intensely and from afar before it bankrupts our country. What ever

that didn't work worth a *****.

Yep, "love thy neighbor" is real nasty, all right.
Our good buddy Quib said (nom begins):
First off, "love thy neighbor" is secular and humanistic. It
doesn't require any god or religious faith. It's just about one
person responding to another person. Secondly, you religious
fuckwads consistently fail to practice these alleged moral
standards. That's why you're advocating bombing the ***** out of
your neighbor in Iraq right now, whereas, I'm the one asking you
to practice what you preach, you hypocritical *****.

I respectfully object on the grounds that in the same post quibbler
called for the massacre of millions of Iraqis by "letting them fight
it out".
If theist lemmings choose to kill themselves then I'm not going to
demand that the US spend $500 billion more to try to stop them. It
might be unfortunate, but it's their problem. We didn't create their
ancient sectarian feuds. I'm glad Saddam is gone, but they've already
had several elections to try to pick leaders to put in his place and
keep the peace. We need to take the Iraqis at their word and leave
like they have asked us to on a number of occasions.
If that's practicing what he preaches, I want no part of it.
We've already loved the Iraqis to the toon of $500 billion and massive
casualties on our part. We need to start loving them a lot less
intensely and from afar before it bankrupts our country. What ever
happened to "tough love", Mr. "Personal Responsibility"?
Since when does 'letting them fight it out' mean we are massacreing
someone?
We have taken on the responsibility for preventing that massacre, to the
extent that we can. If we "let them fight it out" we will be responsible
for the outcome.
Oh my, I think Fred is trying yet again to pull a word from the

Oh, I think Kate's having another of those liberal "reality-based"
brainstorms.
Now if Fred had practiced what he's actually preaching, he'd be
eternally grateful for the Al Queda's intervention into American
politics by bombing us to keep us from fighting it out between
ourselves and get properly chastized and see it their way. Funny how
that didn't work worth a *****.
And heeeeere's Kate with another of those fancy-dancy liberal strawmen.
She's sooooooo smart.

Oh, now you're in denial that these people use suicide tactics. To make
a dent in religious fanaticism we would have to occupy Iraq for the next
50 years. You have absolutely no plan for seriously dealing with
sectarian violence in Iraq. Even if you put together a solid police
force and military, those people still have religious, clan and cultural
loyalties that you can't erase, no matter how much money and blood you
try to waste on it.
It

You've been Blaming Bush for them for four years now. What's the

That's because the stupid ***** is too dumb to realize that it's
their problem and therefore has made it our problem also. It's not our
fight, despite his efforts to make it so. Naturally, Bush's motives for
being there have nothing to do with helping sunnis and shias live
together in harmony and brotherhood.

Haiti to Kosovo to Somalia. We've poured more into Iraq than just about
any country in modern times and enough is fucking enough.

I remain reality-based, while you mouth pathetic excuses about how we
have to stay in Iraq and fix ***** forever. We didn't "break" the sunni-

No, quibbler, that's an entirely different issue.

We don't need to make a dent in religious fanaticism. We need to make a

Yes we do, and it's working.
Even if you put together a solid
police force and military, those people still have religious, clan and

We don't want to erase them. We want to quell the artificial violence

Of course they have nothing to do with helping sunnis and shias live
together in harmony and brotherhood. That's not our job. Our job is to
eliminate al Qaeda's and Iran's outside influence over the violence
there so that the Iraqis can work out their differences without that
*extra* provocation. Sunnis and Shias in Iraq have been living together
there for *CENTURIES*.
And yes, before you go there, our outside influence is OK, Iran's is
not. Because I said so. If you can't figure out why I said so, you're
too fucking stupid to argue with.
