We don't do God, Alastair Campbell once said. Doesn't the grotesque old
bruiser get tired of being wrong? Everybody does God nowadays -
including his former boss, at least now that Blair has managed to slip
his ex-handler's leash.
Whether a British prime minister is wise to publicly invoke the deity
in the dog days of his career is another matter. The British people
have been tolerant of many things, but rarely displays of God and
greed. In the past week, Tony Blair's government has managed to get
embroiled in scandals involving both.

I guess the critics think it is best if their leaders never mention any
personal religious motivation. That way they won't be informed about
the leaders whose motives they don't want there.
