I was just thinking....(so stop, I hear you say, but listen) The Doctor
and the Xian God may as well be one and the same.
(Please tell me at least one other person here is a Doctor Who fan,
just so I'm not talking to myself.)
Think about this.
First off, you have God, who (supposedly) existed all through time, and
can see everything that is, was, and will be.
You also have The Doctor, who's over 900 years old now, exists anywhere
in time he wants, and as a Time Lord, can perceive time in all
directions.
Second, you have a God who (allegedly) has many names. Jehova, Yaweh,
Jesus, Councillor, etc, etc, etc.
You also have The Doctor, also known as:
Comparativly common or well-known which he called himself: Doctor John
Smith, Merlin, Muldwych, the Ripper, the Sandman, Theta Sigma, the
Valeyard, d3 sigma x2, Thete, The Oncoming Storm
Comparativly common or well-known that other people called him: the
Dark One, Doctor Who, Eighth Man Bound, the Evergreen Man, the Evil
One, He Whose Name Dare Not Be Mentioned, the Ka Faraq Gatri, the
Other, the Relic, the Saviour, Snail, Thete, Time's Champion, Wormhole;
by the Chinese he is sometimes known as "Hu", "the tiger", for his
courage, sometimes as "Hu", "the fox", for his cunning, but most
commonly "xue" (pronounced hu), "he who tends to the sick." Theta
Sigma, The Oncoming Storm.
Obscure: Doctor Caligari, Doctor Galloway, Doctor Johann Schmidt,
Doctor Jon Smythe, Doctor von Wer, the Great Wizard Qui Quae Quod,
James Alistair Bowman, Lung Tau (The Dragon's Head), Mr Pendragon, the
Savant, Zagreus
Look, he even has more names than God! Even counting the ones on there
twice!
Speaking of which, Jesus is alleged to have turned water into wine.
The Doctor can't do that, but with his knowledge of chemistry and
slight of hand, he can surely make it seem he did.
God is known as Alpha Omega.
The Doctor is known as Theta Sigma.
Jesus had twelve apostles.
The Doctor has had even more companions.
Jesus allegedly came from a virgin birth.
Gallifreyans ditched sexual reproduction in favour of "scientific
reproduction", essentially highly genetically controlled articficial
insemination. So technically the Doctor was also immaculatly conceived.
Jesus was supposed to have come out of the tomb somehow.
The Doctor could do the same thing with his trusty sonic screwdriver!
Jesus =pacifist
The Doctor=pacifist
Xianity garners ridiculous ammounts of devotion from religious.
Doctor Who garners ridiculous ammounts of devotion from fans.
People are always calling on God to help.
People are always calling on The Doctor to help.
God is supposed to be triune, several people in one.
Inside the Doctor's psyche exists the memory and personality of all
previous regenerations. The Doctor is several people in one.
I could go on and on, but I guess I'll type it up now.
.....
Well, one more! Xians say Jesus died and rose again (Big deal! The
Doctor's done it nine times now! Viva regeneration!) proved he had to
his disciples (much like the regenerated Doctor must prove to his
companions that it's him) and then ascended into the sky (which the
Doctor does all the time in the TARDIS).
Perhaps I should go to sleep, but I find this kinda funny. Please say
I'm not alone.

Nah, not the same guy. The xian god hangs out with Salvation Army
crones. The Doctor hung out with Elisabeth Sladen and Lalla Ward.
BTW: Is it true you can guess someone's approximate age by asking them
what actor played the Doctor? <g>

I dunno, perhaps. Since a lot of actual fans will get really nuts about
who played what when what's cannon and what's not and whether or not
Sylvester McCoy (seventh) is the devil incarnate (personally, I don't
get what's wrong with him, but about 90% of rec.arts.doctorwho
disagrees), you might want to be more specific: Who was the first you
SAW play the Doctor?" I'm only seventeen, so the show was cancelled the
year I was born, the TV movie came out when I was in first or second
grade, and so I only had vague third and fourth hand knowledge of it
and no names. The first actor I SAW play the Doctor was Christopher
Eccelston, last summer. Ergo, I'm 17 or under. I could see that
working. Of course, if I tried that here, I'd get a lot of this:
"Who was the first actor you saw play the Doctor?"
"Doctor who?"
"Yes, exactly."
"What?"
"No, who!"
etc.
Oh, and I like that bit about the writers. And the Master is SO Satan!
I mean...he's got a manical laugh, the right style of facial
hair...he's perfectly qualified! XD

I'd wouldn't call myself a fan, but I'd still be interested in watching
if they broadcast it around here.

Think about this.

<snip>
Both evolved through the effort of multiple writers, but the Doctor has a
more cohesive storyline.
I guess the Master would be Satan?
