Pilot pushes religion on flight |

AN American Airlines pilot asked Christians on his flight to identify
themselves and then suggested the non-Christians discuss the faith
with them, the airline said today.
The case had been handed over to the airline's personnel department
for an investigation, spokesman Tim Wagner said.
"It falls along the lines of a personal level of sharing that may not
be appropriate for one of our employees to do while on the job," he
said.
American's Flight 34 was headed from Los Angeles to New York's John F.
Kennedy Airport on Friday when the pilot asked Christians on board to
raise their hands, Wagner said.
The pilot, whose name was not released, told the airline that he then
suggested the other passengers use the flight time to talk to the
Christians about their faith.
The pilot also told passengers he would be available for discussion at
the end of the flight. Wagner said the pilot had just returned to work
from a week-long mission trip to Costa Rica.
Because of privacy issues, there would likely never be any
announcement about any punishment or reprimand the pilot faced, Wagner
said.

Pilot's crazy rant
By MAKI BECKER
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
An American Airlines pilot terrified passengers aboard a
Los Angeles-to-New York flight when he asked Christians to identify
themselves and then called those who weren't Christian "crazy," witnesses
and an airline spokesman said yesterday.
Fearing the pilot might have some sinister plans for the
flight, many frantic passengers tried to reach their families on their cell
phones, witnesses told CBS News.
Shortly after takeoff on Friday, the pilot asked people
aboard Flight 34 to "raise their hand if they were Christian," according to
one passenger, Amanda Nelligan, of Los Angeles, who spoke to CBS.
He then told the passengers that "everyone who doesn't
have their hand raised is crazy," Nelligan said.
"He continued to say, 'Well, you have a choice: You can
make this trip worthwhile, or you can sit back, read a book and watch the
movie," Nelligan said.
Flight attendants contacted ground control about the
incident, assuring passengers that they didn't think they were in any real
danger.
Nelligan said she and other passengers thought the
behavior was "bizarre" and wondered whether his comments were a threat.
CBS identified the pilot, but confirmation was not
immediately available.
American Airline spokesman Tim Wagner said the incident
was being investigated, and added that the company has guidelines about
appropriate behavior.
The pilot had apparently just returned from a missionary
trip to Costa Rica, the spokesman said.
"It falls along the lines of a personal level of sharing
that may not be appropriate for one of our employees to do while on the
job," Wagner said.
The 8 a.m. flight arrived at JFK Airport about 4:20 p.m.
without incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration is not investigating,
a spokeswoman said.

Scary but it reminds me of one of my favorite Playboy cartoons.
It shows a pilot, co-pilot and probably the engineer walking "nonchalantly"
down the iles of an airplane.
One is whistling, thier faces are vry red, they are sweating and they all
have parachutes on...

The greatest trick is to quietly put your dinner in the sick bag. Then hold
the bag to your mouth and very noisily pretend to be very sick When everyone
is looking at you, take the spoon and eat your dinner out of the bag.

An even bigger story has been going around for years and years
and is perpetuated in a lot of churches is the story of how it's
a rule in the USA that you are not allowed to have two pilots
on an aircraft who are christian......

People were making some very nervous calls on their phones. And the air
phones of the plane itself. And the crew contacted ground control.
The man was well on his way to causing a panic.
He did come on later to apologize to the flight crew. Apparently they were
chewing on him for freaking out the passengers and leaving the crew to
deal with the panic.

Religious fanatics, Twinky, slit the throats of flight attendants,

Yes, the other things, such as: burning down libraries, killing
philosophers, pagans and burn witches, or the crusades, or the programming
of the people, the opression of the people, and the practice to accuse
scientists of discovering the truth and then punish them, all these things
are apparently not necessary to realise something might be wrong. And to
that, add the word-by-word belief of old myths and fables and the strange
belief that one day the righteous ones will start disappearing. And that's
just one of the religions.

Because of privacy issues, there would likely never be any
announcement about any punishment or reprimand the pilot faced, Wagner
said.
How comforting to sit in an aeroplane without a way to get out, and hear
the pilot declare he's a religious nutcase. That's not what they wanted to
hear, I suppose.

Apparently did so with a lot of other passengers. People started making
calls to their relatives, worried they weren't going to see them again.
(Interestingly, nobody raised their hands as the pilot asked the
christians to do)

Made the BBC finally... though I liked the CNN report which noted:
"Austin said no passengers raised their hands".
Christian question alarms flight
An American Airlines pilot terrified passengers on his flight when he
asked Christians to identify themselves and went on to call
non-Christians "crazy".
Some passengers on the flight from Los Angeles to New York were so
worried they tried to call relatives on their mobile phones.
The pilot, whose name was not released, asked Christians on Friday's
flight to raise their hands.
He then suggested non-Christians talk to the Christians about their
faith.
He went on to say that "everyone who doesn't have their hand raised is
crazy", passenger Amanda Nelligan told CBS news.
"He continued to say, 'Well, you have a choice: you can make this trip
worthwhile, or you can sit back, read a book and watch the movie',"
she said.
The pilot also told passengers he would be available for discussion at
the end of the flight.
'Bizarre'
Ms Nelligan said passengers had thought the pilot's behaviour was
"bizarre" and wondered whether his comments were a threat.
Flight attendants notified ground control.
American Airlines spokesman Tim Wagner said the incident was being
investigated.
"It falls along the lines of a personal level of sharing that may not
be appropriate for one of our employees to do while on the job," he
added.

I want that pilot's name. I'll never set a foot aboard any plane on
which he's part of the flight crew.
If American doesn't cough it up, I'll never fly on American again.

Interesting that Pat Robertson's ACLJ isn't saying a word about protecting
this pilot's right to free speech!

I've already called American to tell them that unless they confirm,
publically, that this pilot is no longer flying for them, my travel
dollars will go elsewhere. Considering that their aircfraft featured
promenantly on 9/11, you'd think they'd sack this guy the moment he
got to the gate.
(On a side note, does anybody else watch "Airline" on A&E? I've
become addicted.)
