Planned Parenthood defies investigators |

When underage girls have sex, the law calls that rape, because minors are
legally incapable of consent. Some of these rape victims become pregnant and
show up at abortion clinics seeking an abortion. But rather than notify law
enforcement, Planned Parenthood pockets the victims' money, then refuses to
assist state investigations of the sexual predators.
Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline and Indiana Attorney General Steve
Carter have spent the last couple years investigating the statutory rape of
underage girls and the possible cover-up of those rapes by abortion
providers who are required by law in all 50 states to report such
crimes--but often don't.
As it happens, Kline and Carter aren't the first to notice. The pro-life
group Life Dynamics Inc. conducted a two-year investigation during which it
called over 800 Planned Parenthood and National Abortion Federation clinics
all over the country. The caller, posing as a 13-year-old seeking an
abortion, explained to the abortion clinic receptionist that her 22-year-old
boyfriend impregnated her, and she was seeking an abortion. Although many
clinics advised the caller that her "boyfriend" was guilty of statutory
rape, in 91 percent of the calls the clinic informed the caller that they
would not report the rape to the authorities if she came in for an abortion.

It's only recently, though, that state law-enforcement officials are looking
to crack down.
Kansas experienced roughly 30,000 abortions in the last two years. Last
year, Kline got a court order requiring 90 specific abortion files from two
clinics to be turned over to a judge overseeing the investigation. He's also
looking into late-term abortions that are heavily restricted in Kansas.
This hasn't pleased Planned Parenthood, which called the court order a
"fishing expedition" and filed a petition with the Kansas Supreme Court to
block the lower court's order. In February, almost a year after the original
court-ordered subpoena, the Kansas high court finally handed down a decision
giving Kline access to the records, so long as the identities of the women
involved were not revealed. If further examination of the files reveals
probable cause to believe that any particular girl has been the victim of
rape, then the attorney general would be allowed to learn the victim's
identity.
Planned Parenthood hasn't been any more cooperative with law-enforcement
officials in Indiana. There, the group sued Attorney General Carter to
prevent its abortion clinics from having to respond to similar document
requests for a mere 73 files. Its claim: the attorney general's
investigation might have a "chilling effect" on minors willing to seek
abortions in the future (and reducing Planned Parenthood's income, of
course). But since minors who are rape victims usually know their rapist, or
even live with them, the net result of Planned Parenthood's obstruction is
to conceal the criminal and put these victims back in harm's way.
