pleae...dont make my mistake of |
subscribing to alt.religion.christianity !!!
makes you wonder how the human race has made it this far considering that
religion has been a very strong influence throughout history.
I literally made my stomach turn that people could be so completely bereft
of individual thought.
nice to be among the rational :-)

If you want to see a putrid bucket of hate filled slime, go to alt.bible.
Never have I seen such vomitous theist hatred as I have in that group.

And yet they have the audacity to claim Christianity teaches love and
tolerance. From what I've seen of that crowd, the world would be a much
better place if we just gathered them all together and shipped the lot of
them off to their own private little place where they can be as mean, nasty
and petty as they please without bothering the rest of humanity.

To be perfectly honest, I'd have to conclude that 90% of it (or
more) is pure trolling.
I know I had similar experiences to yours over in
alt.religion.Christians.roman-catholic, and I'd be very surprised
if even a third of the hard liners turned out to be Catholic.
I once mentioned CCD in the context of religious education, and
not one of the supposedly Catholic hostiles knew what i meant.
A few claimed that they did, but only *After* the fact, *After*
I pointed out the error to one or two.
Another telling sign is that almost all the really hostile "religious"
types didn't hold Catholic positions on the issues. Although I
myself was raised Catholic, you'd think someone who walked
away from the church many years ago would know less about the
church's position on issues that supposedly devout members.
But, Noooooooooooooooooooo!
I'm sorry, trolls, but the Catholic church has no problem at all
with evolution.
And, oh, never in my whole life could I have imagined a Catholic
declaring, "Let's all worship Mary!"
That's the sort of thing Protestants are taught to believe, and it's
a real give-away.
The really sick part about all this is, these were anything but
isolated incidents posted by occasional visitors to the group.
This overt trolling was literally dominating the group. On some
days, the people responsible for this trolling posted hundreds
of articles combined!
I can't imagine why the other religious groups would be any
different.

Actually, it makes me wonder haw far we could have been by now. How
much did we as a people suffer developmentally as a result of the
desire of the "powers that be" to make science, literature, art,
philosophy, physics, biology, politics, cosmology, sociology, etc.
consistent with theistic dogma, be it biblical, qur'anical or
otherwise.
For example, I wonder that instead of "discovering the new world" in
1492, Columbus might have been standing on the moon had it not been
for the "church" and their "biblical truths" Hey, why not? Everything
that exists on earth now was here in the year 0, albeit in different
form. If we hadn't spent a large portion of a couple thousand years
bowing and scraping to a deity(s) and their "representatives" on earth
(popes, church hierarchy, royalty) where could we be now?
No, I suggest that we are where we are today in spite of, not as a
result of the blind conformity that religion provided and enforced..
In fact, It appears that most progress has occurred since humanity has
begun its emergence from the god fog.
