Wikipedia is a free and very popular community-edited encyclopedia.
Nowadays, it is probably the largest encyclopedia on Earth.
Wikipedia aims, according to its stated goals, to present a
Neutral-Point-Of-View (NPOV) content on its pages.
I have been watching Islam-related material on Wikipedia, and came to the
sad conclusion that it's been completely taken over by islamists. Any
contributions that do not present Islam in a positive light are reverted,
even if they are 100% factually correct. And anyone who insists on
contributing such material gets banned.
This happens because at any given time, there are several islamists watching
these articles, and if you try changing them, they gang up on you, so that
your contributions look as if they are something "everyone disagrees with".
They summon some Arab admin, and your IP address gets banned for 24 hours
on the grounds that "yours is a minority opionion".
For instance, anyone who has access to Qur'an can see that it urges killing
the "infidels". See for instance
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=e8c7f505.0309270626.3fe32010%40posting.google.com
I tried adding this vital tidbit to the Islamist Terrorism article,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamist_terrorism
only to be banned by some admin, who calls himself Ta Bu Shi Da Yo, that
sided with these islamist bastards:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User:Ta_bu_shi_da_yu&action=edit
I think it would be helpful if wider sections of the online community chose
to participate in editing Islam-related material on Wikipedia, such as the
following (currently strongly pro-Muslim) articles:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamist_terrorism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infidel
and others.
You don't need to create an account to edit Wikipedia, but it helps, because
without a login name, you are apparently treated as a second-class citizen.

Yes Roger, and you will find that some of the islamists posting to ARI
often quote wikipedia as if it was written by God himself. My advice is
don't waste your time except, of course, to remind people that wikipedia
is kind of an opinion blog, especially for islamists, and nothing more.
No self-respecting academic or scholar would ever rely on...
::snicker::..... wikipedia. And the reason that islamists control the
content is because they have nothing better to do than sit around all
day trying to revise history and paint a pretty picture on their evil,
savage cult. Jobs are hard to come by in Hellholistan, you know, and
they get bored breeding and beating their wife-slaves so they need
something to occupy their copious free time.

I just read the article. It clearly states that some Islamic groups
interpret the Qu'ran to mean they should engage in terrorism. It seems,
then, that the point you were trying to make is already made -- unless
you were actually trying to make the point that the Qu'ran *must* be
interpreted to mean that, which isn't true at all, as evidenced by the
many Islamic groups who don't interpret it that way.
My conclusion is that you were not wronged in any way.

Again, I see nothing wrong. The article in no way denies the Islamic
roots of these terrorists. It does show verses from the Qu'ran that can
be said to denounce terrorism. Do you have a problem with that? Isn't
it the right of the contributors to provide the information and argument
they have on the subject? Wikipedia traditionally addresses opinions,
if only to express that they are there. But the article doesn't lie,
nor does it conceal information. What's your problem, then?

Earlier today I read a post citing freedom of speech on USENET. It

If you don't like the rules the owners of Wikipedia play by, then play
somewhere else. You have no grounds to demand that they play by your

Also, understand that you may well have come in contact with Muslims

This verse certainly indicates that Islam is not a peaceful religion. Some
of the other verses people mention can perhaps be explained away, but not
this verse.
Also, historically speaking, Muhammed murdered some innocent people who

Actually what you mean is anything that has been accusatory and
perverted by Jews and Christians, has been reverted. That is a good thing.
Those groups are threatened by the increase in Muslim converts.

Susan, I guarantee you that he wasn't trying to post "facts". The point
he claims he was trying to make -- that the Qu'ran has passages in it
that terrorists use to support their actions -- is already included in
the article. That tells me that it was a different point he was trying
to make, most likely that the Qu'ran supports terrorism completely and
that interpretations that don't agree with that are invalid -- which is
not a fact.

And nazism was the majority opinion in Germany 60 years ago. What's

I was not suggesting that a minority opinion was neither valid nor
worthy of consideration. I was making the point outlined in the second
paragraph, which you omitted in your post that even if you hold a
'majority' view it's possible that the sum of the remaining differing
opinions may be contrary to yours. If you see what I mean.

It is hardly surprising that the views of someone who considers Muslims
"Islamist bastards" should be rejected by a site aiming to maintain a
neutral point of view. Think about it for a moment.
Perhaps, if you have access to a dictionary, it might be worth looking up
the word 'neutral'. You will find, distasteful though it may be for you,
that a 'neutral' view need not necessarily conform to yours.
You don't need to create an account to edit Wikipedia, but it helps,
because without a login name, you are apparently treated as a
second-class citizen.
From this, do we conclude that you attempted to make your edits without
having created an account?
Wikipedia has become a valuable source of information, and has been
reasonably reliable so far in my experience - primarily BECAUSE it
maintains such a strict moderation policy. It would be a great shame to
see its informative articles on religion reduced to endless quibbling
between fanatics of any stripe.
My advice would be that if you wish to submit content to Wikipedia then
consider whether the article you are hoping to correct or amend stirred
any strong emotional response in you. If it did then I would suggest that
you do not submit your amendment unless you are certain that you can write
factually and in a balanced manner despite that.

I've seen *lots* of crap posted on WIkipedia, & it's *precisely* because
they *don't* check facts so much as accept what people say is true.

I've never seen an article on Wikipedia that wasn't verifiably factual.
I've seen articles that won't commit to views that are considered "fact" by
some but not verifiable. Could it be that you've seen some of these, and
noticed things that you consider false but are verifiably true by expert
consensus?
For example, a creationist might read the Wikipedia article on creationism
and conclude that it's full of crap because it doesn't say that evolution
is bunk. Does that mean the article is full of crap, or does it just mean
that the article isn't going to commit to an unproved opinion?
