Please refresh my memory |
I know I was posing here in aa in 2000. I just can't recall having such
a deluge of idiotic political primal screams as we've been getting for
months now. I'm getting tired of wading through this ***** (both
left-wing and right-wing) in order to hopefully find a few posts that
are actually in fact on-topic.
There used to be folks here who would turn in such spammers as newsgroup
abusers. Is there some reason that's not happening any more? Is it no
longer possible to get someone's account pulled? I'm just asking...
curious at this point.

Yes, I recall your rendition of Rodin's "The Thinker" quite fondly. ;-)
Your version of Michelangelo's "David," though, was imperfect -- for
some reason you refused to have your arms chopped off for the sake of
art.

Erm... are you thinking of the "Venus di Milo"? I never thought of
trying that one...

The increasingly public popularity of the Internet began in 1995, and by
no means peaked in 2000.
There are many more people with access now than there were four years ago.
Given that alone, you should expect more garbage now.
However, Bush has also polarized this election like no other. He inspires
extremes of antipathy and advocacy.
As for the relative difficulty of sending the spammers packing, I'd say
it's probably greater today than it was four years ago. Most ISP's will
only yank accounts for activity which is both illegal and makes the ISP
liable. The anonymous posting services will apparently yank no accounts
whatsoever, despite claiming to not tolerate such activity.
For the most part, I think the garbage will disappear once the election is
over.

Aside from the "joke" that was posted "Because of the
expected heavy turn-out republicans are asked to vote on
tuesday and democrats on saturday" that was posted here
and on other groups I read, and heard on the radio, I
don't remember as much.
On the other hand in 1996 I saw a few posts claiming
Bob Dole's injury was self inflicted. So i guess it can
come from either side.
