Police in Johnson City arrested a Bristol, Virginia, minister for
driving under the influence and indecent exposure.
Police say 58-year-old Tommy Tester urinated in front of children at a
car wash while wearing a skirt. He will remain free on bond until an
October court hearing.
He is also charged with having an open container of alcohol in his
vehicle.
Tester is a minister of Gospel Baptist Church and works for Christian
radio station WZAP, 690 AM. The owner of the radio station, Al Morris,
is asking for people to pray for Tester.
A report also accuses Tester of offering police officers sexual favors
and says an open bottle of vodka and empty oxycodone prescription
bottle was found in his car when Tester was arrested Friday.

No wonder if I'm going to get my car washed up that way, I'll go to either Big
Stone Gap or Appalachia...;-)

Prayer requests while meaningless of themselves, are of course, a, ah,
subtle way of politicising people in a certain direction who might
otherwise choose another course.
As Sara Diamond remarks in "Spiritual Warfare" (p142):
"Indeed [prayer] is a weapon. It is a brilliant means to enlist
Christian Right activists' interest in unfamiliar causes - to get them
thinking about Senate resolution XYZ and to get them committed to a
specific result. [...] Among those who pray, a certain percentage
will want to bolster their prayers with action - Christians call this
'putting feet to prayer' - such as writing a letter to the editor,
calling an elected official or attending a demonstration. Year after
year, by 'just praying about it,' the Christian Right leadership has
used a type of thought reform to steer the concerns of its
constituents.
