Pope Benedict Honors Swiss Guards 500 Years of Service |
Thankyou men. Job well done.

Pope Benedict Honors Swiss Guards 500 Years of Service
Pope Benedict addressed the Swiss Guard, gathered in Saint Peter's Square.
Pilgrims admired the guards wearing their traditional yellow, blue and red
uniforms. The pope thanked the guards for their service.
The pope said 500 years ago, on January 22, 1506, Pope Julius II welcomed
and blessed the first contingent of Swiss guards, who arrived in Rome to
protect him and the apostolic palace.
Earlier, a special mass was held in the frescoed Sistine Chapel for them and
their families to commemorate the founding anniversary.
During the mass, the Swiss Guard's chaplain said that for the past 500
years, with loyalty and authentic religious spirit, young Swiss men have
crossed the Alps, to offer with enthusiasm, their humble service to the
Vicar of Christ.
The Swiss Guards have protected 42 popes. Today, 110 guards make up the
Vatican army, which is called the smallest and oldest in the world.

Personally I don't care. Jesus was just this dude see and the next thing
you know not only is he a God but his Mother has died and then flies to
heaven.
All of which was arbitrarily voted and decided on.
I really like the Ascention of Mary part. The Pope one day decrees that it
happened because he felt like it was true. There is not a shred of
evidence that it happened but that is Catholicism for you.
But one has to believe that he existed in the first place. It is really
really difficult to believe that Jesus actually existed. Appelonius seems
a more likely Christ but the name doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely.

Weeeeell it was all done with the best of intentions, simply to attract the
flock of those early times and keep em 'flocking' to the cathedral every
Sunday. I mean, a Jesus that arrived normally and departed same wasn't going
to get too many folks excited now, was it? That 'floating up to heaven' bit
must have 'wowed' them, they could swallow it back then, before we flew our
aircraft up there !

Somehow Lonnie Christ doesn't make it either.
Holly Christ is a bit better. Harry Christ is pretty good too.

Honey, that 12 to 1 ratio still makes Jesus a big ole homo. <g>
Of course one has to believe that Jesus actually existed.
Ok, then --
Honey, that 12 to 1 ratio still allegedly makes alleged Jesus a big
ole homo.
Happy? <g>
Personally I don't care.
I was just kidding. Hence the emoticons.
Jesus was just this dude see and the next thing
you know not only is he a God but his Mother has died and then flies to
heaven.
All of which was arbitrarily voted and decided on.
I really like the Ascention of Mary part. The Pope one day decrees that
it happened because he felt like it was true. There is not a shred of
evidence that it happened but that is Catholicism for you.
But one has to believe that he existed in the first place. It is really
really difficult to believe that Jesus actually existed. Appelonius
seems a more likely Christ but the name doesn't roll off the tongue as
nicely.
They could call him Lonnie for short?
Somehow Lonnie Christ doesn't make it either.
Holly Christ is a bit better. Harry Christ is pretty good too.
'Charlie Christ'?
No, definitely not, 'won't sell'

That's about the least interesting bit of "news" I have heard in 40
years.

uninteresting but you have bested it!

You realize that the Pope turned to Swiss mercenaries because he
didn't trust his own army, right?
Yes, the Pope had an army. Pretty big one. Look up the "Papal
States."
