Object: Pope out of altar-boy buggering mind
Look at the lunatic, ignoramus pope raving about the progress of modern
technology, particular in areas like embryonic stem cell and cloning
research.

I'm reminded of some comments by Ingersoll. He noted that one virtue of
the papacy was that he "is mortal, and the church cannot be afflicted
with the same idiot forever". He also noted that, "The church is not a
pioneer; it accepts a new truth, last of all, and only when denial has
become useless." That's certainly true in the case of John Appauling
number 2.

"It is fashionable to wax apocalyptic about the
threat to humanity posed by the AIDS virus, 'mad cow'
disease, and many others, but I think a case can be
made that faith is one of the world's great evils,
comparable to the smallpox virus but harder to
eradicate." -- Richard Dawkins

What the Pope and some of the other nay sayers, like GWB, don't
understand is that no sensible person or group wants to produce cloned
human babies (reproductive cloning) because of the risks involved.
What was authorized in Britain was the technique called therapeutic
cloning in which embryonic stem cells are produced to treat disease.
They are never placed in a uterus and never allowed to gestate. No
babies.
I wonder what the Pope would think if some group announced tomorrow
that they had developed a treatment for Parkinson's disease based on
embryonic stem cell research?

He'd most likely refuse to take it. After all, condoms are a "treatment"
for pregnancy, and the Catholic church forbids them.

And don't forget STDs. The RCC is always slow to reap the benefits of
medicine. For a long time, they wouldn't even allow the dissection of
cadavers for scientific study:
