Prayer For Knowledge Of And Fidelity To My Vocation. |
You have called all men to the Christian vocation, Lord, through the
gift of new life in baptism. Realizing that this fundamental calling
has many expressions, I ask for the eyes of faith that I may see more
clearly the way in which you want me to live my Christian life.
Grant me the grace I need to live up to my particular vocation. Grant
me the gifts of fidelity and perseverance. Help me to live with
detachment from the material things of this life, that I may adhere
more readily to you.
Help me to live with purity of soul and body, that I may give more
fully of my love to you and to others. Help me to live in accord with
the Father's will, that all I do may help to bring myself and others to
everlasting joyful life with you. Amen.

Please.... in your face prayers on an atheist newsgroup is demeaning to
your religion as well as insulting to those who have no religion. A
prayer posted to atheist newsgroup is rude to say the least, and borders
on the vulgar. You remember what Jesus had to say about those who prayed
on street corners, "Go into your closet, shut your door and pray to your
Father who sees in secret."

I am not against God, I am against the religions that teach the people
superstitious fear to seperate the people from their money.
Unfortunately, the slow witted cattle will never be able to understand
that there is a difference between religion and god.

The belief is any proposition that cannot be proven requires faith!
There is no proof that god doesn't exit therefore, it requires faith to
believe it just as it requires faith to believe in god.

I'm not God, but I have a suspicion that the message might be, "try to
stick to the selfless path". I certainly couldn't see the Devil saying
it.

In a message sent 'round the world, poured fuel on
the fire with the following:
[ snip ]
Oh notable but not necessarily primary being who is said to be beyond
this universe or plane of existence and who is accessible only through
prayer, crystals, communing, or various psychoactive drugs:
We pay our respects to you without thereby acknowledging that you are
entitled to greater tribute than that accorded to any other person's
deity.
May your kingdom arrive, soon but not too soon. May your will be done on
earth, when practical, and in accordance with local zoning provisions.
To the degree that the Grand Scheme corresponds to the Criminal Code and
low cost internet access, though not presuming to understand it, we ask
that you provide us with the minimum daily requirement of vitamins and
minerals according to FDA guidelines.
In judging us we ask that you consider our situation as victims, which
excuses what might to first appearances be indictable. We, in turn, will
try to forgive those who have injured our sensibilities, although
possibly excluding parents, teachers, civil servants and priests about
whom we have just recovered painful memories.
Do not put temptation in our path, for we are quite capable of finding
them on our own. Deliver us from evil, including but not limited to
halitosis and the heartbreak of psoriasis. We ask this in the name of
[ insert name of messiah, prophet, cult leader, holy person here ].
Amen

Josef

It started with a Prayer For Knowledge Of And Fidelity To My
Vocation..
Who (other than "vivapadrepio@aol.com" <vivapadrepio@aol.com>) would
have guessed it would end like:
You have called all men to the Christian vocation, Lord, through the
gift of new life in baptism. Realizing that this fundamental calling
has many expressions, I ask for the eyes of faith that I may see more
clearly the way in which you want me to live my Christian life.

No, you need this one:
Prayer to Mistabit: (grasp your squeegee in your right hand and raise
it in the air).
Dear Lord Mistabit, God of window cleaners and squeegee merchants,
help VPP to see the errors in his thinking and grant him the humility
to notice what he has missed. Clarify his vision that he may see
through his own delusions. Failing that, send him squeegee merchants
to bother him with unwanted attention for the rest of his days.

on 31 Oct 2005 in alt.atheism, dear sweet
() made the light shine upon us with this:
You have called all men to the Christian vocation, Lord, through the
gift of new life in baptism.
IOW, I have a water fetish.
Realizing that this fundamental calling
has many expressions, I ask for the eyes of faith
IOW, my brain be washed...
that I may see more
clearly the way in which you want me to live my Christian life.
IOW, your waste of time.
Grant me the grace I need to live up to my particular vocation. Grant
me the gifts of fidelity and perseverance. Help me to live with
detachment from the material things of this life, that I may adhere
more readily to you.
God is sticky? Ewwww....
Help me to live with purity of soul and body, that I may give more
fully of my love to you and to others. Help me to live in accord with
the Father's will, that all I do may help to bring myself and others to
everlasting joyful life with you.
IOW, I can't do these things on my own, so I need imaginary little buddies
to help.
Amen.
And I have a problem with numbers too.
