Pregnant girls can now IM for help
While Care Net consultants take over 10,000 calls, e-mails a month
Care Net, an organization that provides help to people facing unplanned
pregnancies, is taking full advantage of Internet technology, now offering
an instant messaging, or IM, option along with the thousands of e-mails and
phone calls it responds to each month.
The organization's LifeDonor program specifically helps to generate Internet
advertising that directs people needing help to counselors.
According to a statement from Care Net, in the last six months its Option
Line Call Center and website have handled more than 10,000 calls and e-mails
per month. Ministry officials at Care Net are planning to receive double the
number of calls compared to the prior year. According to the most recent
statistics available, December 2005 was a new record month for the call
center, fielding over 13,262 calls and e-mails for the month.
The nonprofit recently announced that clients can now communicate with
counselors via IM. During the first IM session, a consultant "spoke" with 69
people in just a few hours.
In addition to adding IM, Care Net announced the addition of seven new call
stations, bringing the total number of live call stations to 12. Option Line
consultants are available 24 hours a day, seven days each week to connect
callers to local pregnancy centers nationwide.
"Our ability to stop abortion was substantially increased when we started
our LifeDonor Network. The faithful support Care Net receives via our
LifeDonor monthly supporters is a huge factor enabling us to reach more
women in need each day," Matthew Waters, Care Net's vice president of public
education and development, said.
"The stories we hear day in and day out are amazing. One young woman whose
mother was pressuring her to have an abortion called after finding Option
Line on the Internet ended up changing her mind about having an abortion. A
young man called for his girlfriend. He had found Option Line through the
Internet and wanted abortion information as neither one of them desired
parenting. After the consultant explained the procedures and risks of
abortion, the man realized the dangers. He ultimately decided that parenting
was a much better solution to abortion. He was put in touch with his local
crisis pregnancy center."

Actually, what we are asking is "if you are so opposed to abortion, why
are you ALSO opposed to proper sexual education in classes and the
"morning after pill"?". Would the USA stop being among the worse
countries in the Western world regarding teen pregnancies and abortion
rates if there were a little more intelligence used and a little less
