Pregnant newborn subjected to forced abortion? |
Yes, you read that right, and it's a serious question. The below
links to something which is quite... "bizarre", I suppose. It's not
too uncommon for a twin to begin forming at some point of fetal
development only to be reabsorbed into its sibling at a later time, or
for various "extra" body parts - teeth, eyes, etc... - to form at
unexpected places in a baby's body. I haven't been able to find
anything on the pictures at the below link, but for all practical
intents and purposes, it looks like a baby that was born "pregnant" -
i.e., it had what I can only assume was a "twin" growing in its
stomach. Does anyone know anything more about the infant shown in
this set of pictures, and if such a thing as a "pregnant" newborn has
ever been known to occur (be it _truly_ pregnant in some way, or
"technically sorta' kinda' like" pregnant, like this one appears to
be)? And if such were to happen, the infant's foetus removed by
doctors in order to save its life, would the fundies cry foul? :-?
These pics aren't too incredibly disturbing, just... "weird". :-/

It's hysterical when those ads pop up as you're seeing pics of
mutilations, murder, mutations, malformations and just all around
general "mayhem". Seeing a corpse of a pregnant woman whose foetus
was pushed out of her womb by the gasses associated with decomposition
and reading, "Meet hot babes in your town tonight!" is just... well...
"funny", but in a "disturbing" sort of way. :-)

An episode of Ripley's showed an Indian man who carried around a fetus
in his abdomen for 35 years. His belly was huge but doctors couldn't
tell what the problem was. They finally cut him open and pulled out a
fairly good sized fetus that had been inside him his whole life. It
was nasty looking.

I read somewhere that those are now considered to be internal conjoined
twins.
Sometimes they differentiate randomly and just grow organs or teeth and
bones in a jumble, and then it's called a teratoma.

It had lots of hair and hands and feet and a deformed head, all
growing inside the man's belly. The doctors said it was the only case
like it they'd seen in their medical careers. It weighed something
like 20 pounds or more, iirc.

I saw a program on that a couple of weeks ago on one of the
Discovery/Health channels. I think it's known as "fetus in fetu" or
something like that. The bulk of the program was on the investigation
of a boy who had a large mass growing in his abdomen. (I think it was
in Afghanistan - his parents were Muslim and the mother was very
worried that she had caused the problem and her husband would divorce
her or kill her or something. They had to reassure her that it is
something that just happens.) When surgeons removed the mass, they
discovered his twin brother. An American doctor went there to do some
research and study the mass. It was amazing! A large glob of black
hair and some teeth and part of an eye socket and cheek bone all bound
together.
They had several stories of what are known as "chimeras." Another
segment showed the actual surgery of a newborn baby with its twin in
its abdomen. As the doctor got set to cut, he said he could feel a leg
kicking (and they showed the bulge) and I wondered the same thing -
what someone who is rabidly anti-abortion or rabidly religious would
think about that. Does the "twin" have a "soul"? Isn't it a "person"
too? The fetus they removed was only the lower half; legs and a trunk
and rudimentary arms but not much else. They called it "acardiac."
(No heart. Though I should think the fact that it had no head would be
of equal importance.) Totally gross and totally fascinating at the
same time.
Interestingly, it's more common than was once thought. (Now that DNA
testing is so readily available.)

And if that isn't enough, there is the story (on Discovery Health
Channel) of the Egyptian girl born with a second *head*, what is called
a "parasitic twin." The heads were joined at the crown; the parasitic
head had no body to speak of, no heart, lungs, or gastrointestinal
system of it's own. However, there was good evidence that the brain in
the parasitic head was fully-functional, as it would be awake and
looking around while the baby (the "real" head) was sleeping. Even
when the "real" baby was awake, the eyes in the parasitic head would
look at things the "real" baby wasn't looking at, and the mouth moved
independently of the mouth on the "real" baby.
In the end, doctors successfully removed the parasitic head, and the
(Muslim) parents named it and buried it in the cemetary. Still and
all, it was apparently *sentient* - can you imagine what the forced
birthers would do in a situation like that?

* Tell the parents they're being punished by God for their sins.
* Call an exorcist.
* Hold a special session of Congress to pass an unconstitutional
law that only applies to parasitic heads.
* Bomb the hospital.
* Blame atheists and/or homosexuals for birth defects.
* Nothing, because they don't give a damn about what happens to
babies once they're born.

What puzzled me was that they gave the parasitic head
a male name (I forget which name was given).

That's absolutely fascinating. I wonder if we were all studied, how
many of us would turn out to have undeveloped or "absorbed" fraternal
twins inside us? And in the case of those of us where we're about 1/2
one person and 1/2 the other... ARRRGHGGGHHH!!!
But still, it _would_ explain a *lot*! :-#
