I agree wholeheartedly that these men deserve prison for killing it, but
this kid positively deserved a beating for the deception. 15 years seems
appropriate.

Prison for 3 in Transgender Teen Killing
HAYWARD, Calif. -- Two men who killed a transgender teenager after
discovering the girl they had had sex with was biologically male were
sentenced Friday to 15 years to life in prison.
Michael Magidson, 25, and Jose Merel, 26, received the mandatory sentence
for second-degree murder. A third man, Jason Cazares, 26, who pleaded no
contest to manslaughter, was sentenced to six years.
The men were accused of killing 17-year-old Gwen Araujo in 2002.
Araujo was born a boy named Edward but lived as woman. Magidson and Merel
had sex with the teenager and became suspicious as to whether Araujo was a
woman. The teenager was beaten, tied up and strangled.

I'll just note that pseudo Christian J. Young has tried to dehumanize
a murder victim by refering to her as "it" (the local consensus is
that the kid in question, while still biologically male, identified
as a female and that the feminine pronoun should be used, and this
seems to be in accordance with her family's wishes).
While preaching morality, J. Young seems to be ignoring the Biblical
passage that says, "Whatsoever you do to the least of these my
brethren you do unto me." We'll see if he posts a correction or
retraction. :-)

Now you are lying - you did not switch to "he/she" as I had quoted
all of your text (except for a URL and an article you cut and pasted
but did not write), although you did switch below (your use of the
past tense implies that you are refering to an earlier post).
I wouldn't care if you used he/she as that could simply indicate
that you did not know which pronoun to use, which is OK, although
I told you what the consensus is (I live in the same area and the
whole affair was covered in the local newspapers).

What I think is that it is not OK for a group of adults in their early
20s to beat up a 17 year old kid, and quite frankly, I'd sort of
wonder about adults in their early 20s having sex with kids still in
high school, regardless of a kid's gender. You seem to be holding
children to a higher standard than adults. Why is that?
Oh, and one other thing - you only heard the murderer's side of the
story (or people who plea bargined to get a reduced prison term).
Don't you find it rather odd that they could have had sex with Gwen on
a previous occassion, and not hae figured out at that time that she
was biologically male? Don't you see anything wrong with this
picture? It sounds a bit fishy and everyone involved and still
alive to testify has a self-serving incentive to spin their way
out of as much time in prison as possible.

Not related to the main point, but: the age-difference issue is pretty
understandable. Most straight teenage girls are more attracted to guys a
few years older than them than to guys their own age, simply because of the
(average) difference in maturation between males and females; a typical 17-
year-old girl is going to be quite a bit more physically, sexually and
emotionally mature than a typical 17-year-old boy.

Transsexuals have few to no protections. Most(75%) work as sex workers at some point
during their transitions. Many die each year. They never deserve beatings, they never
deserve murder.
