Pro-life? Look at the fruits |
First there are all the babies that the Bush induced war on Iraq is
forcing our troops to kill.
Every day there are photos showing that more women and children are
killed in the precision strikes than anyone of 'terrorist" orn even
"insurgent" profile.
And now we find that the Bush economy is killing even more babies.
And see this:
Pro Life? Look at the Fruits!
Analysis of articles by Evangelical Christian Glenn Stassen and
reports about the findings he and an associated investigative reporter
discovered.
I am a Christian ethicist, and trained in statistical analysis. I am
consistently pro-life. My son David is one witness. For my
family,"pro-life" is personal. My wife caught rubella in the eighth
week of her pregnancy. We decided not to terminate, to love and raise
our baby. David is legally blind and severely handicapped; he also is
a blessing to us and to the world.
I look at the fruits of political policies more than words. I analyzed
the data on abortion during the George W. Bush presidency. There is no
single source for this information, but I found enough data to
identify trends. My findings are disturbing.
Abortion was decreasing. In the decade before Bush became President,
the number of abortions in the United States fell from 1,610,000
to1,330,000. That is a decline of 17.4 percent over the 1990s, an
average decrease of 1.7 percent per year. (The data come from
Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life.)
Enter Bush in 2001. One would expect the abortion rate to continue its
course downward. Instead, the opposite happened.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/printstory.mpl/editorial/outlook/2851283
In his new statistical analysis, Stassen used data from Minnesota
CitizensConcerned for Life and the Tuttmacher Institute. He
extrapolated anational rate by performing an analysis on annual
abortion reports of 6 states in a period of 3 years, from 2001 to
2003. In those 16 states, Stassen concluded that there was a net gain
in abortionsbetween 2000 and 2003.
Stassen selected three states (Kentucky, Michigan and Pennsylvania)
toclosely analyze the general abortion trends which began in 2001
andended in 2003. All three showed an increase over the period.
While analyzing the other 13 states with data runnning through
2002,most showed a net increase in the abortion rate with a 14.6
percent onaverage, even though some states showed an average small
decline of 4.3percent.
At the conclusion of his study, Stassen indicated that 52,000 more
abortions occurred in the United States in 2002 than would have been
expected had the abortion-rate decrease of the 1990s continued.
http://www.christianpost.com/dbase/society/1096/section/1.htm
Under Bush, the decade-long trend of declining abortion ratesappears
to have reversed. Given the trends of the 1990s, 52,000 more abortions
occurred in the United States in 2002 than would have beenexpected
before this change of direction. For anyone familiar with why most
women have abortions, this is no surprise:
Two-thirds of women who have abortions cite "inability to afford
achild" as their primary reason (Minnesota Citizens Concerned for
Life). In the Bush presidency, unemployment rates increased half
again. Not since Herbert Hoover had there been a net loss of jobs
during a presidency until the current administration. Average real
incomes decreased, and for seven years the minimum wage has not been
raised to match inflation. With less income, many prospective mothers
fear another mouth to feed.
Half of all women who abort say they do not have a reliable mate. And
men who are jobless usually do not marry. In the 16 states, there
were16,392 fewer marriages than the year before, and 7,869 more
abortions. As male unemployment increases, marriages fall and
abortion rises.
Women worry about health care for themselves and their children.
Since5.2 million more people have no health insurance now than before
this presidency -- with women of childbearing age over represented in
those5.2 million -- abortion increases.
My wife and I know -- as does my son David -- that doctors, nurses,
hospitals, medical insurance, special schooling and parental
employment are crucial for a special child. David attended the
Kentucky School forthe Blind, as well as schools for children with
cerebral palsy andother disabilities. He was mainstreamed in public
schools as well. We have two other sons and five grandchildren, and we
know that every mother, every father and every child needs public and
family support.
What does this tell us? Economic policy and abortion are not separate
issues; they form one moral imperative. Rhetoric is hollow, mere
tinkling brass, without health care, insurance, jobs, child care and
al iving wage. Pro-life in deed, not merely in word, means we need
apresident who will do something about jobs, health insurance and
support for mothers.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/printstory.mpl/editorial/outlook/2851283
This isn't some so-called liberal press. This is one of our own.
Pro-life? You should be voting John Kerry to reduce abortion rates.
The Republicans will never outlaw abortion because it is the kiss of
death for them.
We should be working towards having as few baby killings as possible
in our country and the world.
Bush is not the leader for that as he has shown.

That's a week argument. Something similar could be said of removing a
human from the atmosphere.
It reminds me of a Monty Python sketch: Two doctors arrive at a man's
doorstep and ask for his liver. "I'm using it", he says. The doctors
see he has a liver donor's card. "Nobody's ever had their liver taken
out by us and survived!", they say, as they edge closer.

Do you honestly think that killing babies and women is somehow worse

I really am getting a bit fed up with "women and children" getting

They continually bring it up to draw attention away from the fact that the

target innocent civilians which include women and children. That way their
cheerleading for terrorism doesn't seem so bad. KM

I agree, especially with respect to babies. Infant humans are not
really "people" in the sense that you have no clue what they are going
to be like as adults or even as children. They have no economic value
because they are easily produced at low cost, and their death means
little from a social perspective as nothing substantial has yet been
invested nor is any return in prospect for a long time.
This is why I believe (sincerely) that abortion should be legal up to
an infant's first birthday, to give all these fucked up unwed mothers
a longer window to realize the cost of their irresponsible lifestyle
and do something about it.

If you are a fellow American patriot and lover of the First Amendment, then
by these presents greetings. It is good that you seek rational and
democratic discussion of the great and urgent issues facing our nation.
Unfortunately, I think you've come to the wrong place. See the bottom of
this post for additional evidence.
Especially if you remember the old days of thoughtful discussion in the
newsgroups, this triumph of noise over signal may sadden you. Hyde Park of
the world and cheap advertising are all that remain.
However, there are many alternatives. For example, there are many more
"refined" forums on the Web where polite discussions can be found. Even
better if you can build bridges to real people in the physical world. For
example, you could treat a rational RINO to a movie--like Fahrenheit 9/11.
Lots of good books still being published. (Michael Moore has two new ones.)
You could write a letter for your local paper--you'll reach more "normal"
people and probably have more impact than here. Or you could donate to the
political campaigns--I confess I've already made eight donations. Just
remember that big money is harming democracy, that BushCo has more money
than anyone, and that if money alone decides elections then the American
republic is already dead.
Last, but MOST important: VOTE! Your nation needs you NOW!
On the other hand, if you are a Bushevik troll, then in the immortal
floor-of-the-Senate words of the unloved ***** Cheney: "Go f*ck yourself.
When selecting "featured" posts for this mindless blather thread, the
following factors are considered:
1. Ad hominem evasion of real issues.
2. Stone-headed fanaticism.
3. Generalized hate speech, such as racism.
4. Spinning diversion or trivialization of issues.
5. Blatant lies or hypocrisy.
6. Overt trolling, such as extensive cross-posting.
7. Incomprehensible writing.
8. Vicious negative emotionalism, especially amusing personal attacks.

Here is the local bond issue in my area:
http://www.thenorthernlight.com/archives/2004/tnl_october14/fp2.html
Blaine police chief Mike Haslip is joining other county law
enforcement officials in asking voters to approve a new sales tax to
build, maintain and run county jails. "If you don’t you’ll have what
you’ve got now, and that is not good," he said. What we have now,
according to Haslip, is drunk drivers, petty thieves, bullies and
vandals who don’t go to jail because there isn’t room, and who know
it.
This bond issue has a lot of Republican support and no opposition that
I am aware of.
Now, you know and I know that most of these punks in jail come from
broken families and non-families. So I say, the more abortions
women/girls in that social class have, the better. I think the
government should pay them cash on the barrel for every pregnancy they
terminate. Put a bounty on trailer-trash fetuses just the same as
rattlesnakes.

The answer is no, I have not voted yes on any school bond issues
lately, and not only because I haven't been presented with any. I
have a commune, you know. I contribute to other people's lives until

No, but we have made a lot of progress. It is completely assembled,
awaiting a carburetor. It has some nice features, a fancy manifold
and high-compression heads from the salvage yard. It has a
distributor and points in the interest of keeping it servicable. It
also has a few slick aftermarket parts, like a timing set with a
two-piece cover so you don't have to remove the oil pan. The
workmanship on this is all of a very high quality and we have the
right tools and special equipment for handling an engine, which has
been one of my goals with this place on the mainland. I'm not
actually doing it, of course. It's not my area of expertise. But, it
is happening inside my pole building and consuming some of my time and
money.
I wasn't thinking very astutely when I bought that Suburban. I wanted
a good desert vehicle. But, I didn't really know what I was doing and
I got the half-ton model that is more for light use. I put on big
desert tires and the transmission caught fire on the interstate. But
the truck ended up in a good shop, and I took advantage of the
opportunity to upgrade to a turbo hydro 400 transmission, which is
good to have except it dogged the underpowered engine even more.
But now, with a real, pre-smog 350 with some mild performance
upgrades, the heavy transmission will be no problem and the process of
merging onto the Interstate will no longer be fraught with slow-motion
terror. Next I will have to figure out what to do with the vehicle.
It has a big sound system with XM Radio all paid up until sometime in
2006. It is wonderful for cruising on lonesome highways. But, gas in
***** Cheney's republic is not cheap, as I'm sure you have noticed with
your big block caddy.

I really am getting a bit fed up with "women and children" getting

I agree, especially with respect to babies. Infant humans are not
really "people" in the sense that you have no clue what they are going
to be like as adults or even as children. They have no economic value
because they are easily produced at low cost, and their death means
little from a social perspective as nothing substantial has yet been
invested nor is any return in prospect for a long time.
This is why I believe (sincerely) that abortion should be legal up to
an infant's first birthday, to give all these fucked up unwed mothers
a longer window to realize the cost of their irresponsible lifestyle
and do something about it.

38 Million Not Expected at DC Abortion Rights Rally
(2004-10-21) -- Although several hundred thousand abortion rights supporters
are expected to march in Washington D.C. this coming Sunday, a spokesman for
a major special interest group said its members would not attend the rally.
The American Association of Aborted People (AAAP), a political inaction
committee, said none of its 38 million members would participate in the
protest march.
"Since the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973, our ranks
have swelled by about 1.4 million per year," said the unnamed AAAP
spokesman. "So, we should be at the center of any debate about abortion.
Unfortunately, none of our members could tear themselves away to attend the
rally. But we'll be there in spirit, if not in body."
