Pro-Life Gay, Lesbian Group: Homosexual Orgs Shouldn't Be Pro-Abortion |
This article proves exactly what I have said all along; gays are not a
monolithic people with only one point of view. Many homos are pro-life, anti
gay marriage, anti-affirmative action, ect... Just because a person doesn't
take the liberal position on many of these social issues doesn't make that
person a homophobe.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A pro-life group for gays and lesbians is
criticizing a recent alliance formed between a leading homosexual advocacy
organizations and pro-abortion groups. The Pro-Life Alliance of Gays and
Lesbians (PLAGAL) says its a mistake to link gay rights and abortion in the
same cause since abortion violates human rights and dignity.
Last week, LifeNews.com reported on a joint project between the National Gay
and Lesbian Task Force and two pro-abortion groups, Ipas and the SisterSong
Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective.
The organizations released a document ranking states on a combined scale
covering both abortion and homosexual issues.
But PLAGAL executive vice president Jackie Malone told LifeNews.com in a
statement the group provided that abortion should have nothing to do with
gay rights.
"As abortion rights have been undergoing a consistent cutback, there has
been a simultaneous expansion of gay rights, proving that we don't have to
support abortion on demand in order to obtain our rights," Malone said.
Malone said her group has long been concerned that if a person's homosexual
disposition is ever proven to have a genetic component that gays and
lesbians will be targeted for abortions if it can be shown that an unborn
child may be homosexual.
"Will the NGLTF still want to have these alliances when our own is being
killed before they even draw their first breath?" Malone asked.
Marc Zappala, a PLAGAL board member agreed.
"It will be interesting to see the dilemma of those who support abortion
within our community when the unborn are aborted just for being gay," he
said in the statement.
PLAGAL also says its concerned that the alliance between the groups will
make the public think that all gays and lesbians are pro-abortion and
Cecilia Brown, the group's president, is worried that many pro-life
homosexuals will be reluctant to work with gay and lesbian groups because of
abortion.
"It is no pride to work for the rights of the LGBT community while at the
same time taking away the rights of the unborn," Brown said.
