Object: Pro-life VET?
I heard this from my sister today. She found a cat wandering in her
yard, and it looked so scruffy and ragged that she assumed it was a
stray. Well, my sister never met a stray she could turn away, so she
adoped it.
The beast was sick... had a terrible infestation of ear mites, so she
took it to the vet. At the first visit, the vet informed her that the
cat was about 2 weeks pregnant.
Naturally, my sister asked about spaying the cat, and was the doctor
able to get rid of the unwanted extra baggage. The vet then said that
she would prefer not to do such a thing ON MORAL GROUNDS. Instead of
getting into some truly weird conversation about the morality of
terminating a 2-week cat pregnancy, my sister said "Look. If you won't
do this, I'll just go out and find a vet who will." That got rid of the
moral objections pretty fast, and the cat was spayed... but my sister is
now looking around for a new vet.
