Object: Proof Linking Evolution to Racism
Just 5 months after the release of the Origin of Species, there was a
little-known and little-discussed trial in the state of Kansas. A man
named Bill Suttonhof was accused of murdering three African slave
girls. Since slavery was still legal at the time, however, it was
treated as a Destruction of Property case, rather than a murder case.
Suttonhof's attorney, Stanley Beverec Gathinston III of the ACLU,
applied a novel approach to defending his client. His only piece of
evidence was Darwin's Origin of Species. Gathinston claimed that since
evolution had been proven, Suttonhof could not be held responsible for
helping further it along. Suttonhof was acquitted of all charges. State
of Kansas vs. Suttonhof is almost unheard-of, and it is kept hidden
with good reason by the evolutionists. It reveals their true intentions
about how they want society run.

Well, "no pain, no gain" I guess. But, as a newcomer here,
I wonder whether these Loki visitations have done any good?
I've done some searching of the Google archive and have found
much interesting stuff, including history, justifications,
counter-arguments, etc. But it seems to me that this kind of
post just feeds (and feeds off of) a stereotype of creationist
ignorance and dishonesty. Has a Loki ever posed as a misguided
defender of evolution? Would it be considered impolite for one
to try?

Yes, it's been done, and most often the motive is to expose the
ignorance and gullibility of creationists. Sad thing is, it usually
works. I've seen quite a few obvious Lokis cited on some creationist
web site or other as an accurate representation of what
"evolutionists" actually believe.

I'd rather not give creationists even the false satisfaction of
thinking they won an argument against a real "evolutionist", unless I
were able to follow it up by smacking them in the face with the truth.

I have to agree with the rev'rend. As has been amply demonstrated
here, there is no way on usenet to smack everyone in the face.
And, it also seems to be true in some cases that the smacking
does no good. Several people are still feeling good here about how
they unmasked another "creationist lie", I'll bet.

Just 5 months after the release of the Origin of Species, there was a
little-known and little-discussed trial in the state of Kansas.

I figured that this was a "joke" at this point. And I hereby modestly
claim the prize for earliest recognition. The OoS was published in 1859,
and Kansas was admitted to the Union in 1861.

A man
named Bill Suttonhof was accused of murdering three African slave
girls. Since slavery was still legal at the time, however, it was
treated as a Destruction of Property case, rather than a murder case.

And by this point, I was sure. In the first place, Kansas was admitted
as a free state, and in the second, there were cases in slave states in
which slave owners were tried for (and convicted of) murder for killing
their own slaves. This isn't to say that slave owners were usually held
accountable for killing slaves; just that such cases wouldn't have been
treated as Destruction of Property.

There are a number of different responses from those who "got it," all of
them similar, however, in their spirit of gratuitous condescension toward
those who "missed it." Nothing in this troll is any more ridiculous than
most posts by creationists. In fact, its (facetious) argument equating
evolution with racism is posted continuously here and in all seriousness
by creationists. Its sixty-year mistake in the existence of the ACLU is
hardly the worst mistaken chronology by a creationist.
I wouldn't be surprised to see creationists soon quoting Kansas v
Suttonhof.

I figured that this was a "joke" at this point. And I hereby

published in 1859, and Kansas was admitted to the Union in 1861.

Nah, I had it the From: line.

OK. I was the earliest without using clairvoyance.

Hmmm. Where is Stephen Colbert when we need him.
A word for this argument is needed. "Truthiness" just doesn't
quite fit. Hmmm.

A man
named Bill Suttonhof was accused of murdering three African slave

So what you're saying here is that you are much smarter than everyone
else for figuring it out sooner than anyone else, and that other people
who figured it out later are wrong for criticizing those who didn't
figure it out at all, because it's so hard to figure out that only a
genius like you should be expected to.
Congratulations. You have performed a triple lutz of condescension.

I wouldn't be surprised to see creationists soon quoting Kansas v
Suttonhof.

Nor would I, because creationists have a stupidity level vastly
increased by the desire to be fooled.

The ACLU didn't exist then.
Get it? We know your story is bunk because the ACLU did
not exist at that time.

Not that it would matter anyway, because your fairytale
has NOTHING to do with evolution. Nothing. It's not
describing evolution and it's not presenting us with any
argument based on evolution.
In fact, it's a classic example of a MISREPRESENTATION
of evolution.
Idiot. Troll. Loser.
