country was doing very well economically. As the Bush policies kicked in
the Clinton budget surplus disappeared in unnecessary wars and imprudent
tax policies. It reminds me of what LBJ tried to do, continuing in
Vietnam while promoting his Great Society. It didn't take long for the
both the economy to stagnate and inflation to set in. Energy prices
skyrocketed, forcing President Nixon to impose an excess profits tax on
the oil companies.
I think the same thing will happen during the next 4 years. The economy
will not be able to sustain both Shrub's tax cuts and his expensive
wars. I predict bleak economic conditions in the near term.

1 small turnip, chopped coarsely
2 cups apple cider or apple juice
1 bouquet garni made by tying together
3 sprigs of parsley, 2 sprigs of thyme and 1/2 bay leaf
1/4 cup parsley, chopped
Divide the sage leaves into equal portions and dress the kid.
In a large flameproof casserole, melt the fat over a high flame.
Brown the kid in the melted fat, and then remove and reduce the flame.
Add the onion, carrot and turnip, cover and let simmer for an hour.
Place the kid on vegetables and pour on the cider. Bring to a boil, add
the bouquet garni, cover and transfer to a medium oven for 2 hours.
Remove the kid from the casserole and set aside to keep warm. Strain
the liquids in the casserole, pressing down on the vegetables to
squeeze out the liquids.
Place the kid on a warmed serving platter, pour over some of the juices
and sprinkle with the parsley. Serve the remaining juices separately.

Seems odd doesn't it that they do not value their own lives and the
lives of their fellows. They ally themselves with losers and whine when
they have to pay the price for their stupidity.
But the problem lies with the Arab states themselves, who are actually
afraid of the Palestinians because they tend to be more urban, better
educated and harder-working than the most of the others. So the Arab
states benefit doubly by allowing the Palestinians to suffer when they
could help them economically with relative ease. Not only to they get to
scream about Israel, they get to put down a group that could prove to be
very effective competition for them.

They ally themselves with losers and whine when
they have to pay the price for their stupidity.
They were trained to do that over half a century ago, and the influx of
$$$hundred of millions every year since hasn't done anything to change
it.
But the problem lies with the Arab states themselves, who are actually
afraid of the Palestinians because they tend to be more urban, better
educated and harder-working than the most of the others. So the Arab
states benefit doubly by allowing the Palestinians to suffer when they
could help them economically with relative ease.
In part. But consider, also, where the bulk of UNRWA funds have gone
since its inception: to the "host countries" of the "refugees", namely,
Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and (until recently) Egypt. Very possibly if
UNRWA had never been set up, the PalArab refugees would have been
forced to make new lives for themselves, like the million Jews expelled
from Arab lands, or the millions of refugees from the 1947 partition of
India, or the millions of refugees in postwar Europe. But that wouldn't
have been in the interests of the Arab states, who have nourished their
"refugee" populations, so to speak, to use as political footballs
against Israel.
Not only to they get to
scream about Israel, they get to put down a group that could prove to be
very effective competition for them.
There's that, too. And, after all, the only thing that keeps all these
Arab brethren united is hate of Israel. Without it, they'd be at each
others' throats, even more so than they usually are.
