Proofs of God or no God |
Whenever I see a:
Proof that people assume or feel or know there to be a big invisible
presence with no physical needs
OR a
Proof that no one can detect so-called metaphysical effects using
physics
labelled as a rational argument about God's existence or lack thereof
I just rejoice that people are willing to waste their time in
relatively harmless ways.
Its amusing. Try using more branches of maths in your "proofs" to
make it more interesting. Why not calculus, group theory and fluid
dynamics?
And on the religious side, surely the ultimate "proof" would be people
being brought up with no contact with the rest of humanity and
claiming that an invisible presence *definitely* exists and that their
name is XYZ.
Put more effort into it. Its much more worthy of attention than
mass-manipulation through televison and genocide less than 2,000 miles
away I'm sure. Then maybe you'll burn out your proof hormone and
realise that reality luckily doesn't really stand up to analysis, even
determined religious or scientific analysis. Perhaps this is proof
that reality doesn't exist? Or that reality is not useful because it
can't be fully described by a current theory of physics? Or maybe
you'll start to question the validity of experiential proof of reality
like "I know you're there because I can see you", similar to the "I
know there is a guiding force because I can feel it" in oh so many
ways...
Its a great debate - one where people have tried for millenia to solve
the intrinsically unsolvable. Please do carry on. May all your
mistakes be little ones with no over-blown social effects. But please
do keep a few things in perspective: Whilst a god or guiding force
may intervene from time to time, historically speaking he is not
reliable in sorting out the really big social problems which drove
most religious and scientific people to try to change the world in the
first place. What is a scientfic fact is that people who spend time
proving the unprovable could easily have spent their time doing
something else, maybe even something which could be experientially
shown to be popularly seen as "better".
