Object: Prop. K - Mt. Soledad
Atop Mt. Soledad in San Diego on city property is
a 60 ft cross. It is quite prominent and something
of a landmark.
A court ruled it is a violation of the First Amendment.
Religious partisans (which essential make up the government)
attempted to comply with the court, ostensibly, while maintaining
the preeminence of their theology by arranging a special
rigged private sale of the land on which the cross sits to a theistically
sympathetic 'private' party.
A court has ruled again that that sale was not
valid.
It seems likely that the fate of this theistically high
profile pied a terre will be decided in a public auction.
This is an opportunity.
This is an opportunity for us who would
promote "Belief Diversity".
The sale price in the rigged sale was $100k.
Between the various free-thought and second
tier belief groups (Buhdists, Bahai, Hindu, Islam,
Humanists, etc.) surely we can raise much more than $100k.
Let's do this. We can keep it PC by assuring that
no Belief will be denigrated.
There will always be a stately monument there
and all beliefs will be represented.
On a rotating basis the symbols for the various
beliefs would be made prominent and as visible
as is the cross. This would be a good thing.
