Protestant groups urge Frist to drop out of 'faith' telecast
By David D. Kirkpatrick and Sheryl Gay Stolberg The New York Times
As the Senate battle over judicial confirmations has become
increasingly entwined with religious themes, officials of several
major Protestant denominations have accused the Senate Republican
leader, Bill Frist, of violating the principles of his own
Presbyterian church and have urged him to drop out of a Sunday
telecast that depicts Democrats as "against people of faith."
The growing storm over the role of religion in public life has begun
to hamper Frist's efforts to bar Democrats from using the filibuster,
a two-century-old parliamentary tactic, to block President George W.
Bush's judicial nominees.
A confrontation had been expected as early as next week, but now it
appears the showdown may be delayed.
On Friday, the National Council of Churches was to sponsor a
conference call with journalists to denounce Frist's participation in
the telecast, sponsored by Christian conservative organizations to
build support for Frist's proposal.
Among those speaking on the call will be Clifton Kirkpatrick, a top
official of the Presbyterian Church USA.
"One of the hallmarks of our denominations is that we are an
ecumenical church," Kirkpatrick said in an interview Thursday.
"Elected officials should not be portraying public policies as being
for or against people of faith."

Separation of church and state - *****
They are joined at the purse.
Politics is a spin off of early Christian religions.
Governments have their popes, their cardinals, their bishops, their
pastors, their priests, and their flocks of sheep. Today they are
called presidents, prime ministers, etc.,etc, Supreme Court judges,
Senators, Congressman, Governors, Mayors, and they even have their
Papal Bulls called Constitutions. And don't forget - their armies and
Swiss guards.
And of course - always the $heep who tithe the parasites. { a small
tax or levy }
Did I say SMALL tax? Forgive me.
Hello suckers:
Evangelical Protestant Christians have made alliances with conservative
Roman Catholics and neo-conservative Jews, and they have captured
political power=97power they have used to oppose secular humanism and
naturalism. Incredibly, the Bush administration has rejected
therapeutic stem-cell research based on the questionable
theological-moral doctrine of "ensoulment": even discarded cells that
have begun to divide are held to have "souls." Part and parcel with
this is "evangelical capitalism," also allied with a triumphalist
imperial foreign policy convinced that "God blesses" America in
military adventures embarked upon abroad. As a result, many people are
troubled by the present administration now in control of this country.
Frist is dangerous and is compounding the skepticism.
Caveat: Hide your ***** if Bill is about in your area.
