Why? Was there a question about whether or not mental breakdowns are
a choice?

I guess you don't equate mental illness with healthcare? I did notice you
ignored the premise ... would it have been proper to bring up her mental
breakdown?

Of course it is.
Did Theresa Heinz-Kerry have some problem getting insurance coverage to deal
with her depression?
Damn, you right-wingers are some stupid motherfuckers.

Watching Bush's great mood swings during the debates shows signs
that Bush already knows about mental problems. Bush needs to stabilize
the dosage for his Med's.

Psst... don't be an idiot, Popelish. You're only showing what a
narrow-minded homophobic person you are when you say that having a
mental breakdown, which anyone woul'd want to avoid and cure at all
costs, is the same as being gay. Second, if Kerry himself had
mentioned Teresa's problem in a campaign speech, and then at one point
thanked Bush for his kind words when his oponent mentions the subject
-- just as Cheney thanked Edwards-- it would be quite an odd, stupid
flip-flop to say it's an unforgibable cheap trick the next time it
comes up. It only shows one thing: the Cheneys consider their
daughter's lesbianism a terrible thing, otherwise why being offended?
No one "outed" anyone. If anyone did was Cheney himself long time ago,
then Edwards, for which he was thanked oddly enough, and then Kerry,
for which he's now being attacked just as a way to stop talking about
the real issues, like Bush's poor debate performance.

It would have been entirely to the point if the Democrats had been
talking about a constitutional amendment to forbid alcoholics from
enjoying basic human rights.
Like, say, prohibition. While discussing whether it would help or
hinder, whether it was a moral law or not, it would have been
perfectly appropriate to bring up Billy.

it's not a matter of it's "to the point". it's a matter of a classless
move.
cheney's daughter, or billy carter, should not be brought up to make a
candidates point
it shows an extreme lack of class.
hey, edwards wife is fat. so does that mean that next time they discuss
health care (and obesity is a health care issue) that bush or cheney should

If it's such a "classless move", why did ***** Cheney thank Edwards for
his kind word when Edwards brought up Mary Cheney's lesbianism? Why no
GOP outrage then?
The only "classless move" here is the GOP's clearly feigned outrage at
Kerry's kind words about Mary Cheney.

Is that why Cheney THANKED Edwards for his "kind words" during the VP debate?
Hypocrisy, thy name is Republican.
Already the Cheneys' feigned "outrage" is backfiring on them.

Frankly... I was a bit disappointed that Bush didn't take that as an
opportunity to point out that Cheney has distanced himself from the
administrations stance on same sex marriage.
Ironic that in standing up for their daughter by calling Kerry on his
politicising of their daughters sexual orientation that Cheney should be
accused of not standing up for his daughter, eh?

If you are a fellow American patriot and lover of the First Amendment, then
by these presents greetings. It is good that you seek rational and
democratic discussion of the great and urgent issues facing our nation.
Unfortunately, I think you've come to the wrong place. See the bottom of
this post for additional evidence.
Especially if you remember the old days of thoughtful discussion in the
newsgroups, this triumph of noise over signal may sadden you. Hyde Park of
the world and cheap advertising are all that remain.
However, there are many alternatives. For example, there are many more
"refined" forums on the Web where polite discussions can be found. Even
better if you can build bridges to real people in the physical world. For
example, you could treat a rational RINO to a movie--like Fahrenheit 9/11.
Lots of good books still being published. (Michael Moore has two new ones.)
You could write a letter for your local paper--you'll reach more "normal"
people and probably have more impact than here. Or you could donate to the
political campaigns--I confess I've already made seven donations. Just
remember that big money is harming democracy, that BushCo has more money
than anyone, and that if money alone decides elections then the American
republic is already dead.
Last, but MOST important: VOTE! Your nation needs you NOW!
On the other hand, if you are a Bushevik troll, then in the immortal
floor-of-the-Senate words of the unloved ***** Cheney: "Go f*ck yourself.
When selecting "featured" posts for this mindless blather thread, the
following factors are considered:
1. Ad hominem evasion of real issues.
2. Stone-headed fanaticism.
3. Generalized hate speech, such as racism.
4. Spinning diversion or trivialization of issues.
5. Blatant lies or hypocrisy.
6. Overt trolling, such as extensive cross-posting.
7. Incomprehensible writing.
8. Vicious negative emotionalism, especially amusing personal attacks.

No. The fact is that Kerry said nothing bad about Cheney's

On the one hand, Kerry's decision to mention Mary Cheney in the debate
was gratuitous and tasteless and it backfired. On the other hand,
Mary Cheney's identity as a lesbian has been the subject of enough
media coverage so I think it's fair to say not much harm was done to
her psyche. If ***** Cheney is a pissed-off dad, too bad. Patrick
