Push for national gay-marriage ban |
How much more needs to be done to get the crazed LLL (Looney Liberal
Lemmings) to understand; Americans do not want same-sex marriage. Whatever
arguments can be made in favor of creating this right do not supercede the
fact that Americans overwhelmingly reject the notion. Imposing the will of a
few against the wishes of the masses amounts to no more than totalitarian
government; and afterall, isn't that what you 'liberals' so firmly oppose?
http://www.politicalgateway.com/news/read/9139
WASHINGTON, April 24 (UPI) -- Roman Catholic leaders and evangelical
Protestants, joined by other religious groups, are pushing to amend the U.S.
Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.
As a kickoff, the group signed a petition in support of an amendment, The
New York Times reported. Those who added their names included seven Catholic
cardinals, a number of archbishops, some Orthodox Jewish rabbis and at least
one official of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
One Catholic group -- the Knights of Columbus -- plans to distribute 10
million postcards at Catholic churches for congregants to send to their
congressional representatives.
"The personal involvement of bishops and cardinals is significantly greater
this time than in 2004," said Patrick Korten, a spokesman for the lay
Catholic group.
In 2004, proposed amendments to state constitutions on homosexual marriage
helped bring out conservative voters and may have contributed to President
George W. Bush's victory over Sen.. John Kerry.
But some political observers say that the public attitude toward the issue
has shifted with a recent poll finding 51 percent of respondents opposed,
compared to 63 percent in 2004.

Federal court upholds military's antigay policy
A federal judge with the U.S. district court for the district of
Massachusetts on Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed by 12 service
members challenging the military's antigay "don't ask, don't tell"
policy. The ban, established in 1993 under the Clinton administration,
prohibits the military from asking about the sexual orientation of
service members but requires discharge of those who acknowledge being
gay or engaging in homosexual activity.
The service members had argued that the policy violates their
constitutional rights to privacy, free speech, and equal protection
under the law. However, in court documents the Bush administration
argued that Congress, in approving "don't ask, don't tell," recognized
that the military is characterized by its own rules and traditions,
including some restrictions that would not be accepted in civilian
society.
The policy "rationally furthers the government's interest in
maintaining unit cohesion, reducing sexual tensions, and promoting
personal privacy," the government argued.
U.S. district judge George A. O'Toole Jr. on Monday dismissed the
suit, brought by the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network on behalf of
the 12. "We are disappointed in the court's decision and are reviewing
all possible responses," said C. Dixon Osburn, executive director for
SLDN. "We continue to believe the military's ban is un-American and
unconstitutional. There is no reason lesbian, gay, and bisexual
Americans should be prohibited from serving our country."
"Don't ask, don't tell" has been upheld by appeals courts in several
other jurisdictions. One of the reasons SLDN filed the lawsuit in
Boston is that the appeals court there—the first circuit—has never
been asked to rule in a case involving the policy. (AP, with
additional reporting by The Advocate)

The latest polls show that in California same-sex marriage has about 50/50
support - the numbers have shifted substantially since Proposition 22 was
passed. That we were at the break even point was even mentioned in a
letter to the editor by a spokescritter for the San Francisco branch of
the Republican Party (and his letter was intended to support Arnold when
he vetoed a bill allowing same-sex marriages). He tried to spin it by
saying that it should be decided by another initiative (which, of course,
is very expensive to do).

I'd say it is time to do something about the Loony Religious Right Wing
and we can start by eliminating the tax-exempt status these religious
groups get. If they want to ammend the U.S. Constitution, they can
pay for their lobbying out of after-tax dollars like everyone else.
Sure the Catholics and Evangelicals will scream about losing their
boon, but if they want to alter our system of government, that's just
too bad.

for everything bad that happened during and after
Hurricane Katrina, the truth is that the people
who lived here were much more prepared for a big
storm than the federal government that promised
us flood protection."

Former Sen. John Danforth (R-MO), on the conservative plan to amend the
Constitution to ban gay marriage:
“Some historian should really look at all of the proposals that have
been forth throughout the history of our country for possible
constitutional amendments. Maybe at some point in time there was one
that was sillier than this one, but I don't know of one.“

How much more needs to be done to get the crazed LLL (Looney Liberal

arguments can be made in favor of creating this right do not supercede the
fact that Americans overwhelmingly reject the notion. Imposing the will of a
few against the wishes of the masses amounts to no more than totalitarian
government; and afterall, isn't that what you 'liberals' so firmly oppose?

Please explain what business it is of yours, or any other heterosexual,
if homosexuals want to get married.

Why is same-sex marriage even necessary?

because histrionic little girls need to wear white dresses and parade around
like queens for their mindless little families.
marriage is an institution that needs to die, but for that to happen, men
need to grow balls.
