"Atheism is the world of reality, it is reason, it is freedom. Atheism is human
concern, and intellectual honesty to a degree that the religious mind cannot begin
to understand. And yet it is more than this. Atheism is not an old religion, it is
not a new and coming religion, in fact it is not, and never has been, a religion
at all. The definition of Atheism is magnificent in its simplicity: Atheism is
merely the bed-rock of sanity in a world of madness."

THE ILLUSION OF LOGIC
You may find yourself locked in debate with a skeptic and know that there is
something about his argument that doesn't fit, despite his references to
logic. In other words, it will sound as if this fellow knows all about logic
yet has come up with a conclusion that is completely washed of any common
sense. Usually, this person is either being stupid or deceitful.
See the post below:

a decent reply. Don't imagine you're the first to pour your need for
reassurance on alt.atheism. There are no converts here. Judging from
the number of posts generated by your thread, most are passing you up

When an authority tells you to question authority, don't feel silly
questioning that authority's reasons for having you question authority!
Usually, when a person tells you to question authority, they are telling you
to only question the established authority. You will find that they don't
like having their own views, or perceived authority, questioned or
challenged

Both God and Zeus (Note correct spelling) are Mythological beings -
they are beings mentioned in myth.
(A myth being a story of cultural/religious/spiritual significance for
the people that tell it.)
What is not established as a *fact* is whether either of these
mythological beings exist outside the mythologies that mention them.
That is, it is a *fact* that both God and Zeus are mythological beings
- what is a matter of subjective opinion is whether or not they exist
in the greater reality.
-----------------------------------------------------
+Atheism is impossible if held positively. Atheism only exists in a vacuum.
I don't know what you are trying to say.
Possibly you are trying to say something about "positive" atheism as
in "strong atheism"?
Atheism exists in the context of my beliefs.
I believe that honesty is important for example - so I tell people "I
am an atheist" rather than hiding the fact from others.
It must disprove theistic proofs.
No, not at all.
I am an atheist whether or not I can prove anything to anyone else.
"Proof" is an irrelevancy.
It cannot prove itself true.
And it doesn't need to.
Believers seem to always forget that little bit of additional
information.
It is a
very weak place to be intellectually.
I don't agree.
You are welcome to your opinion of course.
To each his own.
Is it possible that invisible pink unicorns exist?
Yes
Is it possible that there is an ice cream factory on Jupiter?
Yes. But fairly unlikely.
Then that is the same kind of company atheist viability keeps. Therefore,
atheism is also fairly unlikely. That is the context of its viability.
I cannot make any sense out of this bit.
Mark.

Prove it.
Atheism only exists in a vacuum.
Meaningless.
It must disprove theistic proofs.
Wrong.
It cannot prove itself true.
Proof is for maths.
It is a
very weak place to be intellectually.
It is the *default* position, intellectually.
Is it possible that invisible pink unicorns exist?
Nope.
Yes
Nope.
Is it possible that there is an ice cream factory on Jupiter?
Nope.
Yes.
Nope.
But fairly unlikely.
Nope, it's impossible.
However, even if it *was* possible, should we believe that there
is one just because it is possible? Without evidence we should
not believe that there is one. With contrary evidence, we should
believe that there isn't one.
Then that is the same kind of company atheist viability keeps. Therefore,

The only thing that's unlikely around here is you actually
understanding anything.

Wrong, pink is a color of of light, and since
anything invisible cannot have a color, the
definition contradicts intself, and therefore
it cannot exist.

Wrong. An ice factory like any kind we know cannot exist in
Jupiter. What may be possible is a way to make ice cream,
but what we consider to be an ice cream factory would be
crushed by the pressures of the planet, and cannot exit
there intact. One furhter note, there may not be a surface

Question: Have you ever done a critcal historical and exegetical study of
the Bible yourself? I am willing to bet that you haven't. It is said that
95% of those who come across as you do, and choose to denigrate
Christianity, have not either - they are just repeating things that they
have heard, read, or been taught, from others without examining objectively
the facts, evidences and writings of our faith.
Which makes you a parrot at best.

What a pointless ad homimem.
I have not so insulted you.
If you want to learn and exchange ideas then ask and
answer questions.
If you are here to harass atheists then I will
let my more acerbic colleagues deal with you.
There are billions of people in the world with many
different sincerely held beliefs.
Do you harbor ill will against all who do not
share your beliefs?
I think you have tried to make the point that
there is no absolute knowledge that there is no
God. Most of us here would agree with that.
You seem to miss or deny that there is no absolute
knowledge of the correctness of any theological
or atheological belief.
Have you considered that?
Have you considered that you too must logically
be 'agnostic' with regard to other beliefs?
