Question: Have you ever done a critcal historical and exegetical study
of
the Bible yourself? I am willing to bet that you haven't. It is said
that
95% of those who come across as you do, and choose to denigrate
Christianity, have not either - they are just repeating things that they
have heard, read, or been taught, from others without examining
objectively
the facts, evidences and writings of our faith.
Which makes you a parrot at best.
"... the Bible was a collection of books written at different times by
different men -- a strange mixture of diverse human documents -- and a
tissue
of irreconcilable notions. Inspired? The Bible is not even intelligent. It
is
not even good craftsmanship, but is full of absurdities and
contradictions."
[E. Haldeman-Julius, "The Meaning Of Atheism"]

conceived.

+Instead of Parroting something someone else has said can you you explain
why somehthing is so?
When an authority tells you to question authority as the moron above does,
don't feel silly questioning that authority's reasons for having you
question authority! Usually, when a person tells you to question authority,
they are telling you to only question the established authority. You will
find that they don't like having their own views, or perceived authority,
questioned or challenged.
No the Bible is not a lie. Where is your evidence? Do you have anything that
has not been carefuly refuted - and I certainly do not mean rejected
out of hand. If you can find anything that has not already been refuted or
anything that contradicts the points made I would be very
interested to hear them....
for starters 'The Old Fart Noah', there's thousands more:
The Magic Pixie told the old fart to
build a great big boat out of magic wood, and to fill the big boat
with two or seven of each kind of animal; two or seven, depending on
how you interpret the written version of the Saga of the Magic Space
Pixie.
Of course, the old fart pulled all this off without a hitch, and when
the big boat was loaded the Magic Pixie poured about four and a half
billion cubic kilometres of water on to the mud ball, [the earth] which drowned
every single living critter. About a year later, the waters eventually
magically disappeared leaving absolutely no trace that the flood ever
happened.
After leaving the big boat, all the animals magically wandered back to
from wherever it was they came, and the old fart somehow got drunk,
probably from wine made out of magic grapes that grew in a magic
vineyard. Once he was good and sloshed, the old fart stripped off his
clothes and passed out. Sometime later one of the old fart's sons
walked in and saw the old fart's wobbly bit, so the Magic Pixie - who
doesn't like people to look at wobbly bits - put a curse on the
wobbly-bit-looker and all his descendants, even though they didn't
even see the wobbly bit.
And the olf fart forgot altogether about the mammals in the
sea who had no water to swim in! And the fish and the...

Oh so the puny Sycophanting fool lowers himself to ad hominem once again by

You had your chance. If that's all the 3rd grade drivel you are capable of

Oh yeah. It might be wise to say now if you're a kid of 15 or so. Some may

Why is it that you do not believe in God?
Because, after a few decades of devout, unquestioning faith in God,
dedicating my life to God, studying the Bible, fellowshipping with the
church, and devoting myself to prayer, obedience, self-denial, and
worship, I finally realized that what I was actually seeing in the
real world was overwhelmingly consistent evidence that God was a
character who appears only in the stories, superstitions, and
subjective feelings of men. The difference between the way the real
world was, and the way the real world should have been if the Bible
were true, was too great to ignore any longer.
Try it yourself. Ask yourself, "What is it I believe about God that
does not come from the stories, superstitions, and subjective feelings
of people such as myself?" You may think you have faith in God, but
if you look at what you are really putting your trust in, you'll find
that the painful truth is that your faith is actually in the
traditions and feelings and superstitions of men. If God were real,
there ought to be lots of other ways to learn about him without having
to depend on fallible human thoughts, words, and feelings. But there
isn't. And that's just one of the ways the real world fails to be
consistent with the idea that God is real.

In other words, superstition: ascribing a specific, arbitrary,
supernatural cause to the things and events you observe in the real
world. If you are honest with yourself, you will have to admit that
you do not let your observation of nature dictate what you believe
about God. Rather, you let your beliefs about God dictate how you
interpret what you observe in nature.
Think
about this. God choosing to not exercise His will in something is the same

Both are a lack of action. So, how can you complain against God for not
moving according to your criteria, when you choose to not move at all in

Did you read my answer at all? I *did* choose to exercise belief in
God, for a good three-quarters of my life. I was finally able to
discern that my exercise of faith was all that was lending any
existence at all to God, since I observed that God did not move even
according to his own criteria. You have argued that the
characteristics of the real world ought to be assumed to reflect the
characteristics of God Himself. But what men say about God is not
consistent with those characteristics, and there is no source of
information or evidence relating to God outside of the stories,
superstitions, and subjective feelings of men. If we take the real
world as reflecting God's standards for what constitutes the
difference between reality and fantasy, and we measure the Christian
doctrines of God against those standards, they come up as fantasy.
That is why you end up with nothing if you seek to put your faith in
God rather than in men, as I did.

Why is it that you do not believe in God?
Because, after a few decades of devout, unquestioning faith in
God,
dedicating my life to God, studying the Bible, fellowshipping
with
the
church, and devoting myself to prayer, obedience, self-denial,
and
worship, I finally realized that what I was actually seeing in
the
real world was overwhelmingly consistent evidence that God was a
character who appears only in the stories, superstitions, and
subjective feelings of men. The difference between the way the
real
world was, and the way the real world should have been if the
Bible
were true, was too great to ignore any longer.
This paragraph could have been written by me. Same story, same
conclusions.
BTW, new here, hello :-)

Therefore, it will have His characteristics woven into it: logic,

about this. God choosing to not exercise His will in something is
the
same
as you choosing not to exercise belief in a god. You could, you just
don't.
Both are a lack of action. So, how can you complain against God for

......I think Tom when Xtians run out of argumant in favour of their belief [and
this happens fairly quickly] some withdraw, some keep arguing, and others
become highly frustrated realising that their life long passion is nothing but
a vacuum, and then resort to childish name calling.
I think our 'painful' friend falls into the latter category.
