Questions for Judge Roy Moore supporters. |
I have a few questions for Judge Moore supporters. Are people who
believe in god better than people who don't? Are people who believe in
a christian god better than people who believe in a non-christian god?
And are people who advertise their belief in a christian god better
than people who are quiet about their belief in a christian god?
.

You prolly aren't gonna find too many around alt.atheism.
Are people who
believe in god better than people who don't?
Nope. With rare exceptions, all theists are assholes.
Are people who believe in
a christian god better than people who believe in a non-christian god?
Again, no. In fact, quite the opposite is usually the case. Xians are
often bigger asswads than their heathen counterparts.
And are people who advertise their belief in a christian god better
than people who are quiet about their belief in a christian god?
Nope. Usually it suggests that these people aren't even particularly
sincere about their beliefs. Their need to advertise and convince
others may well be rooted in not being entirely convinced themselves.
It also usually suggests that they are opportunists who are interested
in exploiting religion.

True, but the decent ones are the ones that are most passive about their
beliefs. In other words, the ones that act most like atheists.

When you say "passive" I assume you mean that they don't speak of
their faith all the time. The Christians who impress me most are the
ones who show their faith in how they live eventhough they never
mention it.

The problem is that on the internet you mostly run into the
assholes.

They're also the ones you're most likely to hear about on the news.

Good point. :)
If you listen to the people supporting Roy Moore and others who
support forcing religion on others, you will notice that the unspoken
premise is that people who believe in god ARE better than people who
don't. Like it's an undisputed fact. I live in Alabama so I hear it
all the time. People will say things like "What's wrong with making
kids pray in school or looking at the 10 commandments? It's good for
them." I'm not saying either group of people is better, it just
irritates me when religious fanatics assume they are better.

Nah. They're still around, continuing their fight even though they've been
defeated, kind of like the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Groups Seek Ten Commandments Protections
Mon Nov 17, 8:20 PM ET
WASHINGTON - Conservative religious groups began a petition drive Monday to
demand that Congress legislate to protect displays of the Ten Commandments
in public buildings.
The group's leaders mounted the drive in response to last week's ouster of
Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore for his refusal to obey a federal judge's
order to remove a 2 1/2-ton monument to the Ten Commandments from the
Alabama Supreme Court. An ethics panel of Alabama judges removed him from
office.
"God often does his best work right after a crucifixion. What we saw with
justice Roy Moore was a crucifixion. God will vindicate this man," said
Vision America President Rick Scarborough at a press conference where he
announced the petition drive.
Scarborough, with former Republican presidential candidates Alan Keyes and
Gary Bauer, pledged to gather millions of signatures over the next year to
pressure Congress to protect religious displays. The Christian Broadcasting
Network and the Family Research Council are also signed on to promote the
petition.
Scarborough said judicial decisions to remove the phrase "under God" from
the pledge of allegiance, and to censure Moore, have built a nationwide
Christian movement against liberal federal judges.
The petition contends the Ten Commandments constitute the foundation of
American law, and expressions of faith are under assault by the judicial
branch. It asks Congress to pass legislation to protect public displays of
the Ten Commandments and to allow nondenominational prayer in public
schools.
Elliot Mincberg, legal director for liberal judicial group People for the
American Way, said religious displays already are protected as long as they
do not promote a particular faith.
"The greatest engine of freedom of religion and of religious free expression
that has ever been devised is the constitutional protection of the freedom
of religion and the separation of church and state," he said.
The religious organizations plan to march on Washington in September 2004,
where they said they will present their petitions to Congress.
======================================
Note: to accomplish their crazy plan, they would need a constitutional
amendment that would nullify the Bill of Rights. If that ever came to pass,
America would become a theocratic dictatorship. It is for this reason that
all American atheists must cast their votes against the Republican Party,
which is the vehicle of the theocratic Religious Right.

No, you just can't understand the difference between supporting a principle and
supporting a person.
