Object: Randi explains "Fundie coal miner miracle"
From his column today.
And I must note here that when the first news came out on the NBC-TV Today
Show about the disaster, the governor of West Virginia began his comments
with "Here in West Virginia, we believe in miracles, and we're praying for
the miners." When the first report was made that all 13 had survived, people
were quick to attribute it to God. One miner's young wife, 27, clutching her
baby girl, said, "It just shows you enough prayers went out. It's a
miracle." And, President Bush said, "We send our prayers." On that same
program, there was an item about a woman who'd won a huge lottery prize. The
first words out of her mouth were, "God has answered my prayers!" Forgive me
for not grasping the situation here: are we to believe that God ignored all
the prayers for the trapped miners because He was busy arranging for that
woman's lottery number to be chosen? And to the young mother: do you suppose
there weren't quite enough prayers, or your husband would still be alive,
and is that the miracle you cite? God allowed the miners to die because the
pleas for mercy directed at Him weren't properly phrased, while the lottery
winner's prayers were better formulated? Just what are this deity's
priorities?

This is the same god that could have averted the disaster.
This is the same god that will allow more money to be spent on his
recovery than the man could ever hope to make in a lifetime digging
coal.

Now mikey, you know good and well from my many lectures to you that
God does not routinely interfere in our lives.
There are clearly
some cases that he has of course.

Cites please.

But we told God that we, mankind,
wanted to run things, so here we are doing a lousy job.

Christian copout alert! It appears, especially in this case, that the god
is either a bystander who watches and does nothing, or that there is no
god. It is asserted that when something good happens, like someone
escaping a building fire with their life intact, it is a miracle. God
helped him. But if the guy had made one wrong turn on his way out, well,
god works in mysterious ways.
The most obvious thing is that which you christers refuse to imagine.
That god doesn't really exist.

Well, 'God' is supposed to be omnipresent, so he should be in there.

The only thing Duck ***** has consistently demonstrated is what a
monumental (with the emphais on mental) imbecile he is.
He claims he can run rings round people on scripture (but when you take
him up on his claim, the only running he does is *away*!), yet he
obviously isn't familiar with the part of the Bible which clearly
states that **WHATEVER** is asked for in Jesus's name will be given.
The loved ones and friends of those miners undeniably asked in Jesus's
name for the trapped miners to be freed alive and safely and returned
to their loved one's.
This is proof positive that there is no god - or there is a god, but
the Bible lies about him! LoL!

It is because all religions, prayers and ceremonies are based purely on
myths and legends!
Praying to mythical gods is no more effective than rubbing a rabbits foot!
