This past week saw a catastrophic failure of homeland defense, and as
in many catastrophies, we saw the extremes of human nature. On the one
hand, the administration standing idly by with whatever troops and
equipment had not left for Iraq, waiting for thousands to die and the
situation in NO to worsen, while smugly (supposedly) waiting for the
word from local government to go in. Then a local government that was
overwhelmed, and had warned of that for days before Katrina hit, and
that had warned every federal and state agency it could. Ray Nagin,
interviewing from ground zero, telling it like it was. In sharp
contrast to Rudy the Liar, who stood on the rubble that entombed the
dead of 9/11, and lied about the quality of the air. And continued
lying for months after that. Who gave false assurances, and hogged the
camera to cover up the reign of terror that his police department had
unleashed on minorities of the city. Who for all his supposed stature,
couldn't even get the allocations promised for rebuilding by the
administration. Rudy, the false prophet.
