Except that a truly supreme being would presumably have the power to
hide all evidence of his/her/its existence. Your argument is as
unprovable as the religionists' argument in favor a supreme being's
existence Science doesn't attempt to prove either theory, it simply
tries to explain how the world around us works.
While I'm not a religionist, I am fascinated by quantum mechanics
and its philosophical implications. If the gods exist, it couldn't
be possible to understand them or their intentions without a complete
understanding of how the universe works, from the largest super-
galactic filaments to the infintesimally tiny superstrings whose
vibrations give rise to particles and reality as we perceive it. It
is all so fantastic and incredibly complex and ordered on such an
incomprehensible level that it could easily suggest a higher
intelligence that created it and continues to control it in some
way. And I can't prove that idea any more than you can prove that
spontaneous generation of universes is a perfectly natural phenomenon.

If he exists and wants us to obey his wishes and commnds there is no
necessity for us
to understand his functions and entity. He merely needs to clearly and
objectively
oresent his wishes and commands in a manner understandible by his creations.

There are thousands of religious beliefs and hundreds of god beliefs. Why

I can see you are approaching this from the classic religionist perspective,
an atheist who is as sincere in his belief as any xian. Whether the gods
exist is unknown at the present time, and has been since the beginning of
recorded history. At some point ancient humans wrote their beliefs about
the gods down and the writings themselves became proof that the stories
contained within were true. Modern science discredits those writings as a
bunch of folk tales, therefore you believe it has discredited the existence
of the gods referred to in those tales. If the gods do exist, they have
never revealed their intentions or wishes to us, and there is no reason to
believe they want us to worship them or obey their commands. The debate on
whether God exists must be taken out of the religious realm and moved into
the scientific realm.
I suggest you read up a bit more on quantum mechanics and cosmology. The
current special edition of Scientific American contains several fascinating
articles on the subjects, including one that proposes the universe to be
a computational device. The entire universe is a superintelligent entity,
and every particle within contains a holographic slice of awareness and is
part of a vast computational process that no human could ever begin to
understand. If God exists, the laws of nature are his toolkit or canvas.

The Judeo-Christian god didn't even claim that - just that he'd punish
his worshippers if they worshipped any other gods (which people tended
to do in those days). The claim didn't extend to those who didn't
worship him, so the nonsense about being condemned if you don't accept

This is a completely nonsensical argument. If it were true, it would
be true of *everything* and thus wouldn't say anything about this
issue in particular.
Suppose I were trying to prove to you that I had the ability to pay
off a mortgage I am applying for. Do I have to prove that a supreme
being didn't falsify the documentation I show you?
You are imposing absurd requirements on his proof that you would not
(and could not) impose on any other proof. Religion doesn't get this
special status from atheists. It has to prove its claims, or have its
claims refuted, by the same standards that apply to all other claims.
A claim is not "unprovable" just because there is some conceivable way
it could be false even in light of all the evidence. If this were
true, all claims would be unprovable. After all, it's conceivable that
we simply imagined all the evidence in support of the claim.

I just looked up at the newsgroups this is being sent to. What the hell?
Why them?
No idea. I've given up trying to figure out peoples' Newsgroup headers.

What does the word, 'shortly' -- i.e., in the very near future -- we find in
Revelation 1:1 mean to *you*? Do you think John of Patmos was directing his
urgent words to you and your grandmother, or to the then living members of
the Christian congregations making up seven churches in Asia Minor -- all
now dead? Now how long have been Christians saying the end times are
immediately at hand?
Read the answer below this response. Doesn't quite fit the definition of the
word 'shortly' (Gr. 'tachos'), does it?

In Revelation 3:11, 22:7,12,20, Jesus is reported to have said "I come
quickly". Since that was almost 2000 years ago, we now know exactly
which meaning of the verb "come" he was referencing.

No Legends state it takes 300 Years to become legend, 1,000 to become a
God, and 2,000 for the Return.

"What the hell is an aluminum Falcon?"
What, exactly, would prove that a (given) supernatural being is the
"supreme being"? I still have yet to hear an actual definition of
"supreme being" or "god" that makes any sense. Why if an entity is
more powerful than you and has no body do people assume it's god?
Couldn't it just be a different kind of creature? Extradimensional
teenagers having fun messing with the talking monkeys?
