Re: 2,000 gay marriages in SF by tonight! |
Gay marriages aren't valid because they are not recognized by G-O-D.
Period.
I don't care how many marriage certificates or licenses you have, they don't
mean a thing because to God a marriage only is valid if it is between a MAN
and a WOMAN.
Those gay marriage certificates are about as valid as the surprise inside a
Cracker Jacks box.

SAN FRANCISCO - Dozens of same-sex couples lined up outside City Hall
in heavy rain early Monday, waiting for city offices to open so they
could join more than 1,700 other gay and lesbian couples who have
exchanged vows in the last few days.
Despite miserable weather and the Presidents Day holiday, many couples
camped out throughout the night. Though City Hall was scheduled to
open at 10 a.m., City Assessor Mabel Teng said she would try to open
her office earlier because of the demand.
Teng said many of the city workers who helped process the marriage
licenses throughout the holiday weekend were volunteering their time.
"I am just very honored to be involved in this significant and
history-making event," Teng said Monday morning. "I'm so proud to be
part of it."
Since San Francisco officials began issuing marriage licenses to
same-sex couples on Thursday, hundreds of gays and lesbians have wed -
many rushing to California from across the country.
While hundreds of same-sex marriages kept City Hall offices buzzing
through the weekend, conservative activists promised a relentless
legal challenge.
The Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund sued to block the same-sex
unions, and San Francisco Superior Court Judge James L. Warren has
scheduled a hearing Tuesday in the case. A second legal challenge
filed by a California group is also scheduled for a court hearing
Tuesday. Briefs were due Monday.
More than 1,700 marriage licenses have been issued to same-sex couples
since Thursday. Although some may choose to wait before actually
getting married, hundreds have already gone before city officials to
exchange vows and be declared "spouses for life," often in ceremonies
scattered around the interior of the ornate City Hall.
New Mayor Gavin Newsom touched off the wedding spree by ordering
officials to issue licenses to same-sex couples, declaring that he was
merely ensuring equal treatment of gays and lesbians. Newsom later
officiated personally at the weddings of his chief of staff and policy
director, both of whom married their longtime partners.
Critics have pointed to a ballot initiative approved by California
voters in 2000 that says the state will only recognize marriages
between a man and woman. Randy Thomasson, the director of the Campaign
for California Families, one of the groups challenging the marriages
in court, said last week that Newsom "can't play God."
On Sunday, a small group of protesters stood across the street from
City Hall holding signs protesting same-sex unions.
But the critics seemed to make little difference to most of the people
inside the building, where the mood was both busy and joyous. Many
clerks and sheriff's deputies volunteered their time to work over the
weekend.
Rich Walker and Brad Chilcoat, who have owned a home together in San
Francisco for the last three and a half years, exchanged their vows at
the top of City Hall's grand staircase, and said later that the city's
recognition of their union added special meaning.
"It's official. It's official," Walker said, displaying the marriage
certificate stamped with both their names.
The certificate, Chilcoat said, "moves us from second-class citizens
to equal status."
Walker, 50, and Chilcoat, 41, walked out of City Hall arm-in-arm,
cheered by the crowds of people waiting outside.

In San Francisco, they were free at last.
Is this the gays' "Rosa Parks" moment? Or was that Stonewall?
The GLBT rights movement has had a couple of seminal moments (NPI).
Stonewall was probably the "Rosa Parks" moment. The White Night Riot,
and now the Valentine Day Marriage Blitz.
"White Night Riot"?
Is that where everyone in a club wears white? (I went with some friends to
one place, wearing black...didn't see the little poster announcing it was
"White Night" until it was way too late *g*)
I wish you all could have seen it. It was utterly amazing. I saw one
SFPD officer get married to her sweetheart by the SFPD Chaplain who
had come down on a Sunday in his dress uniform, and she had an escort
of about 20 officers in full uniform. I saw families in tears of joy,
people dancing out of city hall, people donating wedding dresses,
tuxes, food, camping gear.. memebers of the Symphony showed up and
megan playing music in the rotunda.. and everywhere you turned
someone was getting married. The energy was electric.
That's utterly cool :)

In 1978, disgruntled White resigned from the Board of Supervisors,
frustrated by the low salary - $9,600 a year - then paid to members of
the board. Soon he had a change of heart and asked popular Mayor
George Moscone to reappoint him to the position. Moscone said no.
On the evening of November 27, White entered City Hall through a
window on the lower level, north. (At the time, this area was a
supervisors' parking area. Today, the window that White entered is now
a door.) White, a former policeman and fireman, shot and killed
Moscone and gay Supervisor Harvey Milk.
San Franciscans were indescribably shocked when Board President Dianne
Feinstein announced that the mayor and Milk had been killed and Dan
White was the suspect. Feinstein was sworn in as the new mayor as the
entire City mourned for leaders Moscone and Milk.
On May 21 the following year, White was convicted of voluntary
manslaughter. The jury accepted a diminished capacity defense based on
testimony that White was suffering from untreated depression. In doing
so, the jury rejected first degree murder charges. The so-called
Twinkie defense is a widely accepted misinterpretation of White's
diminished capacity argument. Even the San Francisco Chronicle
reported that White claimed his mind was fogged by too much sugar on
the night of the murders. In reality, White's new found junk food
habit was offered as evidence of his depression, not as the cause of
it.
Outraged San Franciscans responded to the court's decision to slap
White on the wrist for killings (7 year sentence) by rioting at City
Hall, the "White Night Riot." White was paroled in 1984 after serving
just five years and a little more than a month behind bars at Soledad
Prison. In 1985 he returned to San Francisco despite a request by
Feinstein for White, the most reviled man in the City's history, to
stay away.
White killed himself in October 1985.
Some good accounts of the White Night Riots:
http://www.johncarroll.info/WhiteNightRiot.html
http://thecastro.net/milk/whitenight.html
I was a 12 year old living the comfortable suburban life in San Jose
(about 50 miles south of The City.) I was uncomfortably dealing with
the fact that I might be a ***** (nobody every explained that
bisexuality existed, you were normal or you were a fag.) when the news
of the Dan White verdict came in.
Later that night, all the local stations cut into regular programming
to cover the growing situation. Thousands of people, chanting "No
Justice, No Peace!" were marching down Market St. I was fascinated,
these weren't the limp-wristed *****-smokers that everyone assumed fags
were! These were angry people, and their anger was focused on the
city. We watched as they turned over police cars, threw rocks at City
Hall, and threw burning tires into the street.
My clearest memory that night was the interview with one of the
rioters. A good looking man, with a bloody bruise on his forehead
from a police baton, stared right into the camera and declared:
"People are going to have to stop thinking of us as lisping pansies
who own decorating shops, but as real people capable of violence."
Although I stayed in the closet so I could serve in the Army, I was
reborn an activist that day, and I swore that I would work to make
sure that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people would
someday be treated as Americans, indeed humans, deserve to be treated.
I wish I could find out who that man was, I'd like to thank him, or
his survivors if he fell during the AIDS pandemic.
No Justice, No Peace.

*nod* I've got a number of acquaintences in the transgender community; many
of them have become activists in the past few years; one of them was sacked
by management at Eglin Air Force Base for wearing a bra (apparently the
supervisors didn't realize that _all_ of this person's clothes were
women's, but conservative enough in cut to be androgynous). Jerry became
Jeri a few years after that--and recently got in trouble at work for _not_
wearing a bra. Funny how stuff turns out *g*

Period.
Nothing is recognized by god, since god doesn't exist.
Then why use the teachings and experiences of a God fearing man like Martin
Luther King to support your GODLESS initiative?
Why not look the The Church of Satan for support?
Why not indeed? One of the Satanic Rules is "do not complain about anything
to which you need not subject yourself", which if I'm interpreting it
correctly means "mind your own business"---and that's a principle a lot of
other religions could benefit from.

By LISA LEFF, Associated Press Writer

No, they are legal. We'll see what happens next.

It is a defense mechanism. If your beliefs say that gays are
evil/bad/abomination and yet gays are leading happy, productive lives
then maybe your beliefs are wrong. When you have invested that much time
and energy in your belief structures you will go to incredible lengths
to insure that your beliefs are validated, even if that means trying to
deny rights and happiness to others.
James Randi's website has numerous stories of people refusing to give up
their delusions regardless of any evidence to the contrary. This is
similar.

This is
similar.
It's known as "cognitive dissonance". Happens often with apocalyptic
cultists who witness the coming and going of anticipated doomsday dates.
They make up all sorts of fantastic excuses to explain away the failure of
the end of the world prediction, saying such things as "The end of the world
DID occur - on a spiritual plane" or "We miscalculated. Then end of the
world will be on XXX date in the future."

Just dropped in to change the subject line since I read on the net that
by the close of the day, about 2,500 same-sex marriage licenses had been
issued in SF. This means there are 5,000 happy people and their
families in California! :)

And 5000 people whose newly-won equal rights the bigots are going to attempt
to take away. When the bigots try to violate the civil rights of five
THOUSAND people, there's going to be hell to pay. There's strength in
numbers.

Five thousand degenerates versus the far greater number
of normal decent people.

Not "versus". Five thousand in *cooperation* with the millions of normal,
decent people who support the gay marriages going on in SF.
