Yeah, Jesus was big on slavery --

Not slave, but servant.

Why do you lie?
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them
sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)
Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the
name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian,
that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder
because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths,
Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)
The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he
refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will
be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given,
and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke
12:47-48 NLT)

Why don't you tell me exactly what the original word was in Ephesians
6:5 and what positions the people translated as servants or slaves (the
NIV also translates it 'slaves') held in the Roman empire? Did they have
the right to quit their job or were they indentured? Would we call them
servants or slaves? What rights did they have? By the way, Jesus didn't
write Ephesians so it seems silly to argue about what Jesus said from
someone else's writings.

AFAIK, it is Greek. I did some research on the term, but didn't find
anything conclusive on the original meaning/intent.
Part of my intent was going to be: you can't base statements such as
"Jesus was big on slavery" on text(s) that are
incorrectly/inappropriately translated. In cases such as these,
clarification would come from the prophets, as authorized and called by God.

Did they have
the right to quit their job or were they indentured? Would we call them
servants or slaves? What rights did they have?

Ya, I don't know.
But taking the verse and chapter in context, it is clear (to me) that
the intent was /servant/:
5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters
according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in
singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the
servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the
heart;
.... unless you think that the text is talking about /slaves/ of Christ...

By the way, Jesus didn't
write Ephesians so it seems silly to argue about what Jesus said from
someone else's writings.

That's what the NIV, a fairly conservative modern translation, says.

Hmmm, that's a shame, imo.
All the more reason to stand by my statement that "clarification would
come from the prophets, as authorized and called by God."
Thanks for your input/comments.

So is the Holey Babble the inerrant, immutable word of god himself, or not?

Thanks for your blasphemy, heretic.
