The US sells more arms to the Arabs than it sells to Israel. In fact,
2.5 times as much. And, the US
didn't sell much arms to Israel until AFTER 1967 when Israel had
already take all the territories using
mostly French and British arms.

The US sells arms to 'Israel' for money which it has given 'Israel'.
Looks like a free gift to me.<

Almost, but not quite. It is true that with zero interest loans, and
with other grants,
Israel probably ends up paying a small fraction, after inflation and
all, of the sticker prices that Saudi Arabia does indeed have to pay.
But Israel does not get it all for free, as is commonly thought. But
why didn't the US give ISrael arms in 1948, '56 and before '67? The
answer: The Cold War. Also, with British and French out of the Middle
East after the late '60s, and especially when the USSR was out by the
late '70s, the US saw the arms market wide open to US arms sales. But
to sell a lot to the Arabs, they had to compensate Israel, or else
AIPAC would throw in the monkey wrench, as it did when the US struggled
to sell AWACs to Saudi Arabia.
But ISrael make a lot of its own weapons, especially when US arms are
not suitable. For example, almost all of the tanks you see on the
screen are Merkava tanks designed and built in Israel. It is superior
to the Abrams, and anyhow, the Egyptians have too many Abrams tanks, so
Israel has to have something superior.
But another factor is that Israel upgrades and improves US equipment,
and then some of that increased knowledge gets back to the US military.
So that too is an indirect bonus to the US military. And, volume
production does make all the US products cheaper for the US military as
well, so while the US may lose money
on arms sales to Israel, by selling Israel it makes them cheaper and
better over the long run for the DoD.
