So...
multiple EKG's - normal
Not true, they all have significant inferior Q-waves. The ones taken
during chest pain have significant ST segment and T wave changes
inferiorly.
multiple echocardiograms - normal
The one done at Cleveland Clinic apparently visualized inferior wall
hypokinesis which can happen with ischemia, infarction, or both.
bloodwork - normal
Actually, the fasting blood glucose is elevated.
Other tests - normal
Actually, the HDL is well below the optimal 50 mg/dL.
Cleveland Clinic specialist - unremarkable diagnosis
Actually, the suspect the symptoms are cardiac in origin.
Cardiac catheterization - unremakable
Yes, the coronaries were reportedly angiographically normal.
Excessive ER visits
For severe chestpain radiating down left arm.
Cardio fixation
Convinced doctors have missed something.
initial diagnosis - panic disorder
Actually, the symptoms started a few years ago in the setting of
stimulant use to pull all-nighters for work. Some folks have coronary
arteries that are especially reactive to stimulant use leading to
coronary spasm severe enough to cause infarction. This reportedly was
what happened to Len Bias, the basketball player who died prematurely
from a heart attack.
Certainly seems that the initial diagnosis, generally speaking, was
correct.
Suggestions: yoga, meditation, psychotherapy, exercise, hobbies,
socializing, get a pet, do volunteer work at local hospital, photography,
music, pilates, sex, join a book club.
That's only the tip of the iceberg. I've been to:
1. UCSF
2. CPMC
3. Marin General Hospital
4. Norman Regional Hospital
5. OU Medical Center
6. Intergris Baptist Medical Center
7. The Cleveland Clinic
8. Oklahoma Heart Hospital
And the list goes on.. And yes, I'm serious.
My problem is not what the doctors have found on others test, but what they've
found on my EKG. I would say about 80% of the cardiologists I've seen, say
it's a normal variant. However, others that have spent more time listening
to me and my plight (like Dr. Chung) agree there really could be something
going on.
This has to be considered in the setting of your clearly having
metabolic syndrome (MetS) based on what you have told me.
I'm not the same person I once was. Both my heart and soul are scared.
Understandably since they reside in the same place.
The
pains I've felt, the visits to the ER with heart rates close to 200bpm.
I don't know.. I'm having another bad day.
It would be wise for you to call 911 if/when your chest pain radiating
down your left arm persists for more than 20 minutes. My prediction is
that you will respond to nitroglycerin.
Would be more than happy to "glow" and chat about this and other things
like cardiology, diabetes and nutrition that interest those following
this thread here during the next on-line chat (01/12/06) from 6 to 7 pm
