In Bible days, keeping the Sabbath at least made sure the manservant and
maidservant, and the ox and ***** got a day of rest once a week, in days when
folks used to "labour and be heavy laden".
Jesus himself pointed out the absurdity of some of the observances as they
had developed in his time, though.

As we used to say at home, "Six days shalt thou labour and the seventh do
all thy odd jobs".

(Is it lawful to use the computer on the Sabbath? I wonder).

No. Turning on light switches, tearing toilet paper, and cooking are
forbidden as they all take time away from 'glorifying' "God." Talk
about an insecurity complex!
